Haaland claim has Man City fans talking

According to an exclusive report by journalist Simon Mullock in the Mirror, Manchester City will not be put off by super agent Mino Raiola in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland this summer – despite the player’s representative once having a fall out with manager Pep Guardiola.

Indeed, Raiola’s presence as Haaland’s agent could have been an obstacle given his reportedly toxic relationship with Guardiola after the City boss’ treatment of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Barcelona.

However, easing those concerns, Mullock has reported that City will not be put off by Raiola in the race to sign Haaland – with the Norwegian apparently valued at around £100 million.

It is understood by this report that City have also drawn up an alternative five-man target list which includes former Man United striker Romelu Lukaku.

“There have been dealings with Mino Raiola in the past and if he represents a player we are interested in, it won’t be an issue,” explained a senior Etihad source to the Mirror.

“An example of how these things work happened a few years ago when there was an exchange of views between Pep and Yaya Toure’s agent (Dimitri Seluk).

“That didn’t prevent Yaya from signing a new contract to stay with the club.”

Reacting to this Haaland claim, as relayed by City Xtra, plenty of Man City fans had their say on social media – find all of their best comments down below.

Spurs dodged a £27m bullet in Jonathan David

One of Daniel Levy’s summer transfer decisions has turned out to be an absolute stroke of genius for Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs needed a back-up striker to play second fiddle to Harry Kane before the 2020/21 season got underway and as a result, they were mooted with many names across Europe.

Indeed, the north London outfit suffered in the Englishman’s absence last term – following his injury on New Year’s Day, they crashed out of both the FA Cup and Champions League and only won three of eight matches in the Premier League.

On his return, he bagged seven goals, five of which coming in the final three matches to launch Spurs into European qualification.

So to ensure that didn’t happen again, a new forward was high on the agenda – eventually, they settled with a very wise loan-to-buy deal involving Benfica colossus Carlos Vinicius.

His hat-trick in the FA Cup last weekend showed exactly why they got the decision right. In resting Kane, the Brazilian powerhouse stepped up to the plate, making it six goals and three assists from only ten appearances this campaign, per Transfermarkt.

But it could’ve been so much different as Spurs were among the names linked with a move for former Gent talisman Jonathan David.

After scoring 23 times last term, it’s no surprise to see why so many teams were keen to sign him, including the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, though it would be Ligue 1 outfit Lille that won the race, splashing out a record €30m (£27m).

Levy can count his lucky stars that he didn’t sanction that sort of transfer as he’s quickly become a massive flop. David has clearly struggled with the difference in quality between the Belgian top-flight and one of Europe’s elite five leagues.

He has scored just twice all season and has failed to bag in the Europa League despite starting all six group games, per Transfermarkt. The 21-year-old has seen a decrease in shots and dribbles per game in the competition too, which reinforces the above viewpoint.

We’ve seen in recent windows that the likes of Wesley and Mbwana Samatta struggled to hit the ground running in the Premier League, so it is certainly a bullet dodged for Spurs.

Despite being dubbed a “phenomenon” by former coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck, David has cost Lille around £14m per goal, when also factoring in his reported £46.5k-per-week wages.

A total waste of money.

Even Vincent Janssen was more worth his salt despite a tumultuous stint in N17 – in a largely bit-part role, he scored six goals in 42 appearances having cost a fraction of the price at £17m.

Could you imagine if Levy pulled the trigger at £27m only for him to struggle behind Kane?

That would have been devastating, all in comparison to the shrewd acquisition of Vinicius, who is only costing a €3m (£2.7m) loan fee upfront with an option of €45m (£40m) as per Benfica’s official statement, via The Sun.

Six goals for just £2.7m upfront looks a masterstroke in comparison to David costing Lille £14m per goal thus far.

Levy certainly dodged a massive bullet in not following through with Spurs’ interest in the Canadian flop this summer.

David Moyes confirms West Ham inquiries

Speaking in a press conference after his side’s 1-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday (via football.london), Irons boss David Moyes confirmed that GSB and co have attempted to land January signings so far this transfer window – dropping the four-word message that West Ham United have ‘already made big inquiries’.

The Scotsman, speaking candidly after the Hammers edged past Burnley at the London Stadium, addressed growing speculation surrounding West Ham’s hunt for a new striker.

A plethora of forwards throughout the United Kingdom and Europe have been linked, with Boulaye Dia, Joshua King, Marko Arnautovic and Olivier Giroud arguably the most notable.

This comes after club record signing Sebastien Haller left east London for pastures new earlier this month, signing a deal with Ajax worth a reported £20.25 million (BBC).

David Moyes confirms West Ham transfer inquiries

Given West Ham’s need for more options up front, taking into account Michail Antonio’s fitness issues, Moyes has now confirmed that inquiries have indeed been made by GSB to ease the burden going forward.

“We’ve already made big inquiries and offers for players at clubs, which have not been accepted or obviously we would have signed somebody,” explained the manager, via football.london.

“It is not as if we are not trying to that, we have tried. But I need to get players who I think can make a difference and I want it to be someone who I think can help us.

“If I don’t, then I might need to look short term, just to get me through to get me another player, but if not, then I will use the young players or I will have to try and use someone else from the squad and see how we can do it, but if Mick [Antonio] can gain his real form from where he has been in recent months, then that will be a big thing for us and today, he is getting closer.”

Transfer Tavern take

While Moyes has confirmed that the hunt for new January additions is taking place, he appears to be open to any possibility – whether that be a short term option or someone who can perform consistently for seasons to come.

Who West Ham will manage to land remains to be seen, if anyone, but it will certainly be interesting to find out.

Fulham must avoid signing Nabil Bentaleb in January

Fulham and Newcastle United have both been linked with a January move for Schalke midfielder Nabil Bentaleb, but the Cottagers must avoid signing him.

According to the Sunday Mirror (via Tribal Football), both clubs are taking an interest in the Algerian international ahead of the January transfer window.

The former Spurs man spent the second half of last season on loan with the Toon but struggled to have much impact whatsoever, averaging a disappointing 6.47 rating across his 12 appearances in the top-flight (per WhoScored).

His performances this season have been even worse, with the 26-year-old averaging a shocking 6.12 rating from his seven appearances in the Bundesliga so far this campaign.

The midfielder was dropped to Schalke’s U23 side last year for disciplinary reasons, whilst back in 2016, German newspaper Sports Bild (via Sport Witness) labelled the Algerian as a “slacker” and criticised his “arrogance”.

Therefore, it seems strange that Fulham may be considering a move for the 26-year-old, as he has clearly been a bad influence and a troublemaker at times during his spell with Schalke.

Since joining Die Königsblauen in a permanent deal in 2017, having spent the previous season on loan, he has managed just 105 appearances for the club, contributing 19 goals and nine assists (per Transfermarkt).

Whilst this isn’t the worst record, his transfer value in recent seasons has significantly decreased, suggesting that he is no longer the player he was in his early days with the Bundesliga side.

Fulham are arguably already well-stocked in central midfield, so adding the £3.6 million-rated Bentaleb would surely just give Scott Parker a selection headache.

As well as this, the 26-year-old’s contract with Schalke is set to expire at the end of the season, suggesting that it would also make no financial sense to sign him for a fee in January when they could potentially sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Therefore, Tony Khan would do well to avoid signing Bentaleb, who earns €96k (£86k) per week at Schalke, in January, as there is very little to suggest that he would be a worthwhile addition to Parker’s squad.

And, in other news… one Fulham star badly let Scott Parker down against Manchester City…

West Brom should unleash Dara O’Shea after Ahmed Hegazi sale

West Brom are still winless in the Premier League this season but a more pressing saga has developed off the pitch.

The Baggies’ hierarchy sanctioned the sale of Ahmed Hegazi to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad over the weekend, in the process saving on his mega £70k-per-week wages.

The Express & Star claim the deal is worth around £10m in total to Albion.

However, it’s a decision that has angered Slaven Bilic as he wanted the Egyptian international to stay at the Hawthorns, especially outside of the English transfer window.

He said: “It definitely wasn’t my decision. It wasn’t a football decision to be fair. I am very disappointed. We are a team that needs all our good players. He is the player that has know-how in the Premier League, that has vast experience, a national team player, a great professional and played last week against Burnley.”

Indeed, West Brom picked up their first clean sheet of the season versus the Clarets, where Branislav Ivanovic and Hegazi played together for the first time.

Yet just days later, he’s sold and the Baggies go onto draw 1-1 with Brighton.

Nothing can be done until January – if chairman Lai Guochuan is even prepared to back his manager. According to reports, the Chinese businessman has been unwilling to invest in the playing squad, even despite the desperation to get Grant through the door.

Eventually, he got his man, but you can’t help but feel the sale of Hegazi was some sort of financial consequence with Grant costing in excess of £15m.

It’s time for Dara O’Shea to step up to the plate and playing alongside Premier League-winning veteran Ivanovic could be perfect for the club and his own career.

Bilic is a huge fan of his, previously claiming he is “the future” at the Midlands club, so it’s time to hand him a regular starting berth going forward.

Whilst O’Shea’s former boss Matt Taylor at Exeter City, lauded him as an “exceptional” talent who’s got a “chance of making it all the way in the game.”

The 21-year-old has started four Premier League games, where he has averaged a whopping 3.5 clearances and 3.3 tackles each match, via WhoScored.

No other Baggies defender has managed more tackles per appearance than O’Shea, and after picking up his first senior cap for Ireland, he ought to be playing week-in, week-out.

AND in other news, £18m signing’s current West Brom form must be a major worry for Bilic…

West Ham and David Moyes can see positives in Craig Dawson’s loan

David Moyes must look at the positive aspects of West Ham United’s deal to sign Watford defender Craig Dawson on an initial one-season loan, even though the centre-back can leave much to the imagination.

What’s the word?

West Ham have completed the signing of Dawson on a season-long loan, bringing the 30-year-old to the London Stadium to add depth to Moyes’ backline having failed in an array of efforts to sign a centre-back this summer.

The Rochdale-born defender joins the Hammers following Watford’s relegation from the Premier League last season, as well as falling behind Francisco Sierralta and William Troost-Ekong in the pecking order at Vicarage Road under new boss Vladimir Ivic.

Dawson, who Watford signed from West Brom for £5.5million in 2019, is expected to end the Irons’ search for late signings to improve the backline and could see his temporary stint in east London turned permanent next summer with West Ham taking hold of a £2m option-to-buy.

Moyes could call on Dawson to make his Irons debut in Sunday’s London derby away to rivals Tottenham Hotspur, and the centre-back cannot wait to join his new teammates.

“I’m delighted to be here and really looking forward to being back in the Premier League and working with the manager and group of lads,” he told West Ham’s official website. “I’m really excited and looking ahead to the game at the weekend.”

Moyes must see the positives

While Dawson was clearly not Moyes’ preferred centre-half signing – having courted Burnley’s James Tarkowski, RC Strasbourg’s Mohamed Simakan, Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah among others – the Irons boss must see the positives that his arrival from Watford presents.

Dawson has vast top-flight experience from his time at Vicarage Road and West Brom, for whom he’s amassed 182 Premier League appearances for, while averaging 5.0 duels won, 3.8 clearances, 1.2 interceptions, 1.0 tackles, 25.0 accurate passes and 0.6 shots a game last season, per SofaScore.

His knowledge will come in handy as he makes up the numbers alongside Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna, while allowing Aaron Cresswell to focus efforts back at left-back having often been utilised at centre-half thus far this season.

And if Dawson does not feature regularly or impress in his time on the field, West Ham will be able to part company next season and explore signing other – potentially superior – options on a permanent basis than be committed to a player former Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood suggested effectively retired on the field when embarrassed by Danny Ings in June.

“This almost retires Dawson,” Sherwood told Optus sport. “He was so bad, for someone who is such an experienced campaigner.”

Former West Ham boss Alan Curbishley was likewise unimpressed, adding: “[Ben] Foster tries to clear it, but what is so bad – forget that he throws it to Danny Ings – is Dawson’s defending.

“The gap is about three or four yards, and it stays three or four yards. He doesn’t go anywhere near him. He’s petrified of the pace.”

Moyes will be hoping that Dawson does not shy away from getting close to players who boast rapid pace should the 30-year-old feature against Tottenham on Sunday, with Spurs able to call on Heung-Min Son who tore Manchester United apart alongside Harry Kane last time out.

AND in other news, the dominant displays of an £10.8m-rated West Ham star are backing the Irons into a corner concerning his long-term future.

O Inter é um time que eu sou agradecido, me abriu as portas para treinar time grande. Tenho amigos.

O treinador enalteceu o trabalho do atual comandante do Colorado:
