MCFC fans rage at goalkeeper shirts

Manchester City fans are livid with their goalkeeper shirts for the 2021/22 campaign, which were leaked on Wednesday.

The start of the Premier League season is now just a matter of days away, and the Citizens will be preparing to face Tottenham in their opening match. Pep Guardiola and co will be hoping the signing of Jack Grealish (mancity.com) will inspire the Etihad Stadium outfit to another league title and perhaps a Champions League trophy.

Even though the start of the campaign is so close you can almost touch it, the kits have not yet been confirmed. However, a Footy Headlines link appears to show the goalkeeper shirts for the home, away and third kits. It is fair to say that the designs have not gone down well at all with the supporters – they look more like t-shirts than part of a football kit.

The images were shared on Twitter by @City_Xtra, and they attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the designs below

West Ham could move for Divock Origi

West Ham boss David Moyes risks making a massive blunder if emerging claims are to be believed…

What’s the word?

According to ExWHUemployee, the Irons do hold some interest in Liverpool striker Divock Origi but any potential move for him isn’t likely to happen until the end of the transfer window.

He tweeted:

“He is someone I’ve reported interest on before but I don’t think a move is close at this point but could be towards [the] end of [the] window.”

Last month, 90min listed the East London outfit among the sides that were monitoring his situation, with the likes of Southampton, Crystal Palace, Rangers and Celtic mooted too.

Moyes mistake

The Hammers have been linked to several strikers throughout the summer but Origi would arguably be the most underwhelming of the lot.

It’s thought that Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham was the first-choice target for Moyes but it appears that he is against a move to the London Stadium, as revealed by ExWHUemployee last week.

Another more exciting name linked with the club in recent months is Danny Ings, but he has since signed for Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-the-latest-gossip-and-more” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and much more!”]

Barring his involvement in Liverpool’s Champions League-winning run, a brace in their come-from-behind win over Barcelona and another goal in the final against Spurs, Origi has done very little to warrant his whopping £77k-per-week wages at Anfield.

As per Transfermarkt, the Belgian forward played only 537 minutes across all competitions last season and that was even despite Diogo Jota suffering an injury and the indifferent form of Roberto Firmino.

In total, Origi, who was once dubbed a “monster” by former Man City captain Vincent Kompany, has only scored 35 goals in a far from impressive 157 appearances, averaging a goal every 4.4 matches.

That’s hardly prolific.

If Moyes is to find someone capable of providing the perfect foil to injury-prone Michail Antonio, then he simply must look elsewhere.

Origi has already proven to be a massive flop in the Premier League and that’s the last thing they need heading into a Europa League campaign. It would be one massive mistake.

Celtic: Hoops weighing up James McCarthy move

Celtic are discussing a move for former Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy, according to reliable reporter Alan Nixon.

The Lowdown: McCarthy without a club

McCarthy is currently a free agent after his deal at Selhurst Park expired last month.

The midfielder, capable of playing in a defensive, central or advanced role, has been linked with the Hoops over the last 12 months.

Reports last November suggested Celtic were ready to make their move in January, whereas a story in April suggested that Newcastle United were looking to pip the Hoops to a deal.

The Irishman, who Roy Hodgson described as ‘incredible’ last year, appears to be back on Celtic’s radar, according to Nixon.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-11/” title=”Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Nixon’s claim

Nixon, who writes for The Sun, was quizzed by a Celtic fan in regards to transfers on Sunday morning. He claimed there was a possibility of a central midfielder arriving, before name-checking McCarthy.

He claimed that he is free to sign and is being discussed, presumably by the Hoops hierarchy.

“McCarthy is free … and deffo being discussed…”

The Verdict: Sign

McCarthy has made 272 appearances in the Premier League so would bring bundles of experience to the Hoops squad.

He could be a perfect signing for the current campaign, especially with Scott Brown leaving for Aberdeen. McCarthy is also just 30 years of age despite making over 450 appearances for club and country during his career, so his knowledge could be crucial under Ange Postecoglou.

The Irishman is a boyhood Celtic fan, so you’d expect he would entertain the possibility of moving to Parkhead.

Pundit convinced Pereira could replace Zaha at Crystal Palace

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer believes Matheus Pereira would be a suitable replacement for Wilfried Zaha at Crystal Palace.

Back in May, in an interview with The Face, Zaha made it clear that he would jump at the opportunity to play at another top side again following his previous stint with Manchester United.

As for Pereira, who will also undoubtedly be open to a move after West Brom’s relegation to the Championship, he has been linked with Zaha’s current team.

According to The Athletic, the 25-year-old’s name has been discussed at Palace and Palmer believes he could be a good option for the club, especially if they do go on to lose Zaha this summer.

When asked by TT if Pereira was the kind of signing that could bring some excitement to Selhurst Park, the ex-West Brom player said:

“Yeah, he is, especially if you’re going to lose Zaha, but we still don’t know what’s going to happen with him. Obviously Palace will be desperate to keep him, but he’s always intimated that he wants a move away.

“So somebody like that coming into the club would be a suitable replacement for Zaha if he goes and maybe that might be in their thinking.”

Tottenham and Everton are two teams who are said to be interested in Zaha, but nothing is yet to materialise.

Tammy Abraham: West Ham yet to bid

David Moyes is risking a West Ham nightmare if emerging claims are to be believed…

What’s the word?

According to the ever-reliable ExWHUemployee, the Irons are yet to lodge a bid for the 58-year-old’s mooted top transfer target Tammy Abraham.

He claims that they are waiting for Chelsea to sign another striker before making their move, with the Blues believed to want in the region of £40m for his signature.

Their London rivals have been linked with some big-name signings, including Spurs’ Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland, in recent weeks.

Dithering Dave

This latest update doesn’t make much sense at all.

If Chelsea need funds to help sign a new striker, then it would make sense to sell Abraham first. Even then, the Hammers sitting around waiting does very little to help their squad going into a potential 50-plus game campaign.

The new season gets underway in less than a month and, as it stands, Moyes will be heading into kick-off against Newcastle United still with only one senior centre-forward, an injury-prone Michail Antonio.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-the-latest-gossip-and-much-more-2” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and much more!”]

He has only once started more than 24 league games in a season for the Irons since his arrival six years ago, so it would be a huge risk to rely upon him with the club also soon to be competing in the Europa League.

GSB failed to replace Sebastien Haller after his departure to Ajax during the January transfer window and Moyes would be foolish to sit back and wait for his reported number one target.

Abraham is clearly out of favour under Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, having started only four matches in all competitions since the German replaced Frank Lampard at the start of the year.

Even still, the 23-year-old England international finished the campaign just one goal behind their top league goalscorer, Jorginho with seven, and the Italian – as we know very well – is their penalty taker.

Once lauded as a “goal machine” by his former academy teammate Kasey Palmer, Abraham has found the net 30 times across his entire Chelsea career, and given his experience in both the Premier League and across Europe, he would be a astute addition for Moyes this summer.

However, if the manager continues to dither and not even attempt to bid for the striker, then the Irons could be heading for an absolute nightmare by the time August 15 swings around.

Fee revealed for Gers’ Morelos

A Bola has revealed that Glasgow Rangers and Porto are close to agreeing a fee of €17m (£14.6m) for the transfer of Alfredo Morelos.

The Lowdown: Morelos heavily linked with move

Colombia international Morelos has been heavily linked with a move to the Portuguese outfit.

The 25-year-old is said to have already agreed personal terms ahead of a move (Antena 1), and now there has been an update in regards to an agreement between the clubs.

The Latest: Fee said to be close

Now, this report has revealed how much the Gers could receive from the sale of Morelos.

The fee would include a down-payment of €12m (£10.3m), with €5m (£4.3m) available to the Gers in add-ons.

The Verdict: Cheap

Of course, Steven Gerrard, Ross Wilson and the rest of the Gers hierarchy will not want to see Morelos leave the club. He has scored 94 goals in 182 matches for them (Transfermarkt), and has often been their most important player.

However, having previously stated that he wants to play in a more competitive league (Goal.com), it will come as little surprise that he could now move on.

When he does go, though, the Gers must make sure they get a good deal – and in this case, it feels as though they could be left a little short-handed.

It had previously been stated they were looking for £20m last summer (The Daily Mail) for his services. Now, it seems they will barely get half of that as a down-payment, and there is no guarantee Morelos will match the requirements needed for the Gers to get the add-ons either. The 55-time Scottish champions should really be looking for more than what is being reported.

In other news, Rangers fans were delighted by news on this four-goal ace.

Celtic: Paul Robinson drops Odsonne Edouard verdict

Paul Robinson believes that Odsonne Edouard will be concerned about getting injured at Celtic this summer during the current transfer window [Football Insider].

The Lowdown: Postecoglou gears up for challenging 2021/22 rebuild at Celtic

In the midst of a sizeable rebuild on the green side of Glasgow, newly appointed manager Ange Postecoglou will be under no illusions as to the scale of re-structuring necessary, in order to cultivate a Scottish Premiership title challenge this term with his side.

Some players have ambitions of departing from Parkhead this summer, including Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie, who have both signalled their appetite for respective new challenges in recent times.

One man who Robinson also believes could fall into that category is Edouard, who has reportedly told friends he expects to leave Celtic this summer.

The Latest: Robinson details ‘massive concern’ for Edouard this summer

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, the ex-England international detailed his apprehension surrounding the possibility of the Frenchman sustaining an injury during pre-season at Lennoxtown, stating:

“Injury is a massive concern for players in Edouard’s position.

“It’s such a blow if you are looking to leave and then get injured during the transfer window.

“You do not want to play with that at the back of your mind. It is very difficult playing and trying to avoid injury. You’re in fact more likely to get injured if you’re trying to avoid injury than if you are playing at your maximum.

“It is a very difficult situation for player and club and it is one that needs to be resolved quickly. If he is to stay at Celtic for another season then that needs to be ironed out this month.” [Football Insider].

The Verdict: Celtic should look to sell Edouard

Correctly, Robinson identifies that the 6 foot 2 maestro may face challenging thought processes, as he bids to stay injury-free and keep his chances of a move alive.

In 2020/21, the Hoops talisman enjoyed an extremely productive campaign as he registered 28 goal contributions in 40 appearances; 22 goals and six assists [Transfermarkt].

Furthermore, his capacity to regularly threaten opposition backlines is evident, recording a huge average of 3.5 shots per game in the Scottish Premiership last season [WhoScored].

Moving forward, the Celts should be working with the Frenchman to try and recuperate a profit as soon as possible, in order to avoid losing him for free when his contract in Scotland expires at the end of May 2022.

In other news, Noel Whelan has dropped his verdict on a Celtic winger.

Celtic in talks for Cameron Carter-Vickers

New Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou talks a very impressive game. We discovered that fact when he first penned terms but his words after their first pre-season win offered plenty of optimism.

The Australian hoped to have new signings announced within the next seven days, suggesting he’d put forward his own targets to the Hoops board.

What’s the word?

One area the Bhoys have been looking to strengthen this summer is in defence.

A move for Mario Vuskovic could be on the cards while Celtic are also aiming to bring Aaron Hickey back to Parkhead.

However, the latest deal that could occur is one for Cameron Carter-Vickers. The Tottenham centre-back was linked with a move to Glasgow last month and it would appear that their interest is beginning to materialise.

According to reporter, Larry Henry Jr, Celtic have been in talks with Spurs over a potential transfer.

They face competition from Newcastle and from his former loan club, Bournemouth.

The central defender currently earns a salary of £20k-per-week so may need to take a slight reduction.

Starfelt alternative

One deal that looks a distinct possibility at the moment is Carl Starfelt’s. Celtic were touted with a switch earlier this week by Fabrizio Romano.

Postecoglou may need to pay £4m for his services but if a deal falls through, Carter-Vickers would be the perfect alternative.

One of the stand out qualities of Starfelt’s game is undoubtedly his distribution. No player completed a higher rate of successful passes than the Swede (91.4%) in the entire Russian top-flight last season.

Compare that to their newest target and it’s hugely similar. The American defender completed 84% of his passes last term but during a loan spell with possession-based side, Swansea City, he successfully found a teammate at a rate of 91.6%.

Both players are similarly adept in the air as well. Carter-Vickers won 2.8 aerial duels per game last season for Bournemouth compared to 2.7 aerial battles per match won by Starfelt in 2019/20.

Described as a player of “incredible” character by former Luton boss Graeme Jones, Carter-Vickers would also be well equipped to deal with the demands of the Premiership.

He has already played in a comparable league like the Championship and thrived under various coaches in different systems.

With the duo both possessing international experience, it could be a tricky decision to determine which player to sign. That said, with Celtic’s defensive record so diabolical last season, they could bring both to Glasgow.

Last term they conceded 16 more goals than Rangers in the league so they clearly need players who can improve their rugged backline.

It was tense right to the end, but Surrey emerged as winners at The Oval to preserve their one hundred per cent record for the championship season and, as a result, ended Lancashire’s winning run. Mark Ramprakash might have been discarded by England, but he joined forces with recalled Alec Stewart in what proved to be the decisive partnership.Surrey began the day requiring another 105 to win with six wickets in hand. All the time Ramprakash and Stewart were together, it appeared to be a formality. However, when Stewart was out for 46 and it was 248 for 5, there was still time for some drama to unfold.Azhar Mahmood kept Ramprakash company until the total reached 281 when he was out. Alex Tudor celebrated his recall to the Test team by hitting a brace of fours from the first two balls he faced, but was then out to the third with fifteen still required. Martin Bicknell has been around for a while and he used his experience to end Lancashire’s hopes, with Ramprakash still there at the end, 119 not out, as Surrey won by 3 wickets.Warwickshire’s batsmen made life difficult for Leicestershire at Grace Road by taking their second innings on to 439, setting a target of 94 to win. Nick Knight and Jim Troughton extended their third wicket partnership to 139 before Troughton fell for 66. Knight was fifth out for 130, and Shaun Pollock also contributed 66.While the target was not vast, Leicestershire had only 16 overs in which to force the win, and they set off at a rare pace. Iain Sutcliffe was run out in the eighth over, by which time he and Michael Bevan had taken 47 off the target, but Darren Stevens took up the challenge with Bevan before he too was run out. Neil Burns was bowled, but Bevan remained to guide Leicestershire home with seven wickets and nine balls in hand.In the one remaining Division Two match left unfinished, Worcestershire began the day on 25 without loss requiring 337 to beat Glamorgan. Australian Mike Kasprowicz has been finding wickets hard to come by since joining the Welsh county, but he came good when it mattered by taking five for 77 as Worcestershire were bowled out for 226 to give Glamorgan victory by 110 runs. Ben Smith was top scorer for Worcestershire with 61.
