Winger with "outrageous" skill is now open to joining Everton this summer

Everton have received a big boost in their efforts to sign an "outrageous" attacking target this summer, with the player believed to be open to the move.

Everton transfer news

The Blues continue to search for new signings ahead of the new Premier League season, with attacking reinforcements appearing to be a key point of focus. Almeria forward Largie Ramazani has emerged as an eye-catching target, being seen as an alternative option to Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto.

Meanwhile, a new midfielder is required after Everton suffered the blow of losing Amadou Onana to Aston Villa earlier in the transfer window. Colombia and Palmeiras and Richard Rios has been mentioned as a strong target for the Merseysiders, with the 24-year-old starting six times for his country at Copa America.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has been linked with a switch to the Blues, too, with the Englishman potentially wanting a new challenge, in order to be more of a regular starter than he is at the Emirates. A loan move to Marseille does look on the cards, however, even though the transfer hasn't gone through yet, giving Sean Dyche a slight chance to hijack the move.

In what would be a shock deal, Everton have also been mentioned as possible suitors for former Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip, who is a free agent after departing Anfield at the end of last season, following eight years there. The 33-year-old may be hesitant to join, considering his Red past, but he is a hugely experienced figure who would add great squad depth at Goodison Park.

Everton boosted in pursuit of "outrageous" ace

According to a fresh report from TEAMtalk, Everton have now been boosted in their efforts to sign Ramazani this summer. The update claims that the 23-year-old "would be open" to joining the Blues "should they come in for him this summer", having shown interest in him during the January transfer window.

UD Almeria forward Largie Ramazani.

Ramazani would be such a strong signing for Everton before the new campaign gets underway, coming in as a young attacker with bags of potential. The Belgian chipped in with three goals and five assists in La Liga last season, which was a solid return considering his Almeria side eventually finished 19th in the table and suffered relegation, and he could thrive playing alongside superior footballers at Goodison.

Ramazani has been hailed as an "outrageous" talent by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, who also described him as "the mini-Vinicius", such is his pace and trickery out wide.

The fact that he can play on either wing and also in a central position means he would bring great versatility to Dyche's squad, giving them much-needed pace and unpredictability in the final third too. He has scored three times for Belgium's Under-21s in the past, appearing for four different teams at youth international level, and will be hoping a big move to England can push him on towards senior caps.

Tom Rogic 2.0: Rodgers keen on Celtic swoop for "terrific" £9.4k-p/w star

The 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season kicks off in less than a month and Celtic are still yet to make their first signing of the summer transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers' side have already played two pre-season friendlies, drawing 1-1 with Ayr and beating Queen's Park 6-4, but are yet to dip into the market to bolster the squad.

The Hoops are in need of a new number one and have been linked with moves for both Newcastle United's Martin Dubravka and Croatia star Dominik Livakovic.

Joe Hart retired at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, after three years at Parkhead, and Rodgers must now find his first-choice goalkeeper for next season.

The Scottish Premiership champions are also reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Paulo Bernardo on a permanent deal, whilst they are plotting a second bid to sign Adam Idah from Norwich City.

Celtic could also make additions to their midfield ranks as they have been linked with an interest in a central midfielder from the English Championship this week…

Celtic's interest in Championship maestro

According to HITC, Rodgers is keen on a swoop to sign Australia international Riley McGree from Middlesbrough ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The report claims that the Hoops failed to sign the £9.4k-per-week midfield maestro during Ange Postecoglou's time in Glasgow but the Championship star has remained on their radar.

They are now looking at the 25-year-old whiz as a possible target to join the club this time around, as they look to bolster their midfield options before the end of the window.

It states that his current contract has one year left to run and this means that it could be the last chance for Boro to cash in on him before a free transfer exit next year.

They would either need to pin him down to a contract extension or sell him before the end of the window to ensure that they do not lose him for nothing.

This suggests that the door could be open for Celtic to make a move for the left-footed gem in the coming weeks. However, the report does not reveal how much Middlesbrough would demand for McGree or how much the Hoops would be prepared to pay for him.

If the Scottish giants could secure a deal to sign the midfield wizard, though, then Rodgers could find his next version of Tom Rogic in the middle of the park in Glasgow.

Tom Rogic's midfield spark for Celtic

McGree would not be the first left-footed midfielder from Australia to turn up at Parkhead in an attempt to make his mark on the pitch in the Premiership.

Rogic enjoyed a fantastic spell with the Hoops during his time in Scotland a midfield maestro who had the quality to chip in as a scorer and a creator of goals.

Former Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic.

The talented ace joined the club from Central Coast at the start of 2013 and eventually moved on in the summer of 2022, 18 months short of a decade in Glasgow.

In that time, the Australia international racked up 46 goals and 49 assists in 272 appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys, including 31 goals and 35 assists in 165 outings in the Premiership.

These statistics show that the central midfielder had the quality to move forward into attacking positions to contribute as both a scorer and a creator for the Hoops.

As you can see in the table above, Rogic enjoyed a strong final season at Paradise before his exit in the summer of 2022, with 12 direct goal contributions in just 20 league starts.

The Celtic whiz also provided a threat in transition with his ability on the ball as he completed 1.6 dribbles per game with a success rate of 57%, which shows that the experienced ace could glide past opposition players to make things happen in the final third.

Rodgers, who worked with Rogic throughout his first spell at Parkhead between 2016 and 2019, could now find his new version of left-footed ace by securing a deal to sign McGree before the end of the summer transfer window.

Why Celtic should sign Riley McGree

The Premiership champions should press ahead with a swoop to land the Australia international because he could add another attacking threat to the side.

McGree, who was hailed as "terrific" by manager Michael Carrick, was restricted to just 14 starts and 22 appearances in the Championship through injury last term, which limited his impact on the pitch.

The 25-year-old star only produced four goals and one assist from midfield in that time but did rank within the top 9% of midfielders in the division for progressive passes per 90 (5.72) and the top 35% for progressive carries per 90 (3.22).

This shows that McGree can provide quality in possession without being the player to carry out the final action, as a scorer or a creator, by being the one to progress the play through a pass or carry to get his teammates into dangerous positions at the top end of the pitch.

When he was able to get on the pitch on a regular basis in the 2022/23 campaign, though, the Rogic-esque ace showcased his ability in the final third.

As you can see in the table above, McGree played in 43 of Middlesbrough's 46 Championship games and caught the eye with 14 goals and 'big chances' created combined.

He created more than one chance per game on average and proved himself to be a midfielder who can push forward to be a difference-maker in matches.

Celtic set to pull off "miracle" as £4m+ sale of forward expected

This is why the Boro star could come in as Rogic 2.0 – alongside their shared nationality and favoured foot – for Celtic as a midfield maestro who can link up play between the midfield and the attack, with his progressive passing and carrying, whilst also being a threat as a scorer and a creator.

Aston Villa lead race for £25m Duran replacement whose "currency is goals"

Following their impressive fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last season, Aston Villa are hoping to prepare for Champions League football by bringing a new striker to the club to support Ollie Watkins.

Villans need to replace departing stars this summer

As if assembling a squad ready for Europe's premier competition was not already enough of a challenge, Unai Emery will now have to use the summer window to find replacements for some of his star players.

The most pressing matter will be in the middle of the park with Douglas Luiz's move to Juventus all but confirmed. To make matters worse, the Villans will also be losing promising midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, who has agreed a £10million move to Everton.

In terms of incomings, Villa have enquired about a deal to sign Brais Mendez from Real Sociedad. The 27-year-old reportedly has a £52m release clause but would be an excellent addition to Emery's squad. In addition to this, Villa are trying to work out a deal to sign Sporting star Pedro Goncalves, who may be tempted to the Midlands by the promise of Champions League football.

Pedro Goncalves of Sporting CP

It is also expected that the club will have to find reinforcements in attack with current back up striker Jhon Duran heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer. The Colombian's move seems to have stalled a little since being granted permission to speak to the Blues, but the move is still very possible.

Villa lead race to sign Roma's Abraham

As first reported by Sport Witness, the Italian press are claiming that Villa are in pole position to sign Roma's Tammy Abraham this summer. The outlet states that the Villans view Roma's asking price of around £25million as reasonable and are eager to get a deal done during the window.

The 26-year-old will be a familiar name to many Villa fans with Abraham spending the 2018/19 season on loan at Villa Park. The Englishman found the back of the net on 26 occassions, most important of which was a strike during the Villans' play off semi final victory over West Brom.

Tammy Abraham on loan at Aston Villa

It was Abraham's time with the Villans that saw him earn acclaim from across the footballing world. Speaking back in 2019, then boss Dean Smith waxed lyrical about his striker telling the press: "There's an awful lot of speculation out there. Obviously clubs in the Premier League are looking at players who are scoring goals in the Championship.

"But Tammy's currency is goals and I can only say what I've already said to him that, unless they're a team in the top six, there's not many Premier League sides creating loads of chances."

AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham.

Following his time with Villa, Abraham has gone on to have spells with both Chelsea and Roma as well as earn 11 caps for the England national team. The striker has even managed to score four times in the Champions League during his career, making him the perfect man to lead Villa's line when they play in the competition next season and replace the outgoing Duran.

Bye bye: "Phenomenal" £125k-a-week West Ham ace now set to seal exit

A West Ham player who has been hailed as "phenomenal" in the past is now set to seal a return to one of his former clubs, according to a fresh transfer claim.

West Ham transfer news

The Hammers are being linked with plenty of exciting new signings as Julen Lopetegui looks to nail his summer transfer business having replaced David Moyes as manager.

One recent report has suggested that West Ham have enquired about Villarreal striker Alexander Sorloth, seeing him as a fantastic option alongside Mohammed Kudus, making Lopetegui's attack even more potent in the process. The 28-year-old scored an impressive 23 times in La Liga this season, highlighting the level of end product he could bring, acting as an upgrade on the ageing Michail Antonio.

Villarreal striker Alexander Sorloth

Meanwhile, Celtic star Matt O'Riley has also emerged as a rumoured target for the east Londoners ahead of the 2024/25 season, as the Hammers look to find a tailor-made replacement for Lucas Paqueta should the Brazilian depart this summer. Like Sorloth, the attacking midfielder's numbers last season were mightily impressive, with 31 goal contributions (18 goals and 13 assists) coming his way in the Scottish Premiership.

Max Kilman has already been signed from Wolves, which looks like an eye-catching piece of business, but away from incomings, a current West Ham player is being linked with a move away.

"Phenomenal" West Ham player set to leave

According to The Sunday People's print edition [via West Ham Zone], Danny Ings is set to leave West Ham and re-join Southampton in the near future, following 18 months at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are willing to allow the £125,000-a-week striker to move on for a fresh challenge, but they are yet to come to an agreement with the Saints, with a £6m fee mooted.

West Ham's Danny Ings

This feels like the right time for Ings to move on considering his age and the fact that he has largely been a bit-part player since joining West Ham in January 2023. Only three starts in the Premier League were handed to him last term, which outlines his squad status, although former Premier League striker Noel Whelan did laud him during his time at Aston Villa, saying:

"He is a phenomenal finisher as well, and we’re really seeing that partnership work with [Ollie] Watkins. They’re building that telepathy, which is key to any good side. It’s what we’ve been asking for. They’ve had questions asked of them, criticism about the lack of goals – but they’ve shown exactly why Aston Villa paid the money to get them both in."

Newcastle now closing in on signing "talented" new history-maker for Howe

With all eyes on the future, Newcastle United are reportedly closing in on signing a Championship wonderkid to hand Eddie Howe a project for years to come.

Newcastle transfer news

The Magpies aren't messing around, that's for sure, with a deal to sign Lloyd Kelly upon the expiry of his Bournemouth contract reportedly on the cards and a similar deal to sign Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo being lined up. The duo will instantly ease Howe's defensive depth concerns following long-term injuries to both Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman.

What's more, reports also suggest that those at St James' Park are working on signing a new goalkeeper, with Villarreal's Filip Jorgensen the latest name to be linked with a move this summer. The young shot-stopper would deputise Nick Pope before eventually replacing the England international, who is currently 32 years old and just back from a long-term injury blow.

Filip Jorgensen for Villarreal.

It's clear that Newcastle are hoping to put their European failure behind them as they look to make up for a disappointing campaign next season. To avoid a repeat of such failure, however, signing future stars would certainly help, which is where one deal could come in.

According to NUFC Blog, Newcastle are closing in on signing Rory Finneran from Blackburn Rovers this summer. The defensive midfielder is yet to sign his first professional contract, making any deal that much easier, and impressed many in English football by becoming Blackburn Rovers' youngest ever player at just 15 years old. Now 16, Finneran looks set to take his biggest step yet.

Newcastle, of course, have proven their pathway to the first-team in the last year, with Lewis Miley becoming a consistent part of Howe's side in the Premier League.

"Talented" Finneran can follow Miley path

Miley, still only 18 years old, himself, has been quite the revelation for Newcastle in the last year, making 26 appearances for Howe's side in total with three of those coming in the Champions League.

Lewis Miley for Newcastle United against Paris Saint-Germain.

The young central midfielder even came away with one goal and four assists, with one of those assists coming in a 2-1 defeat against AC Milan. It is the type of first season that every young player dreams of having and one that Finneran will be desperate to replicate if he completes a move.

If the praise of former Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson is anything to go by, then Newcastle will be getting a true gem. Tomasson told The Lancashire Telegraph after handing the teenager his debut: "Rory is a talented boy, he can play with his left or right feet and has great vision. We shouldn’t forget he is still very young for this level but I thought it was a good opportunity to give him that experience.

"I have worked a lot with him already. He has been away a bit with the national teams but he has been training with me a lot of days over Christmas and the past few days."

Yuvraj Singh: MS Dhoni 'showed me the correct picture' about my future

Yuvraj Singh has credited MS Dhoni for showing him “the real picture” over his international future when he was dropped from the ODI set-up for good in mid-2017, not long after travelling to the Caribbean where he struggled. Coming as it did soon after India’s runners-up finish at the Champions Trophy, where he managed just 105 runs in four innings, spelt the end of the road for Singh.”When I made my comeback, Virat Kohli [the captain] supported me. Had he not backed me then I wouldn’t have made a comeback,” Singh told Network18. “Obviously, I had performed in domestic cricket [for Punjab]. But then it was Dhoni who showed me the correct picture on the 2019 World Cup and that selectors are not looking at you.ALSO READ: Young India players have ‘very less guys to look up to’ – Yuvraj Singh“He showed me the real picture. He did whatever he could, but sometimes as captain, you can’t justify for everyone. Captains worldwide have got stick, be it Sourav Ganguly or Ricky Ponting. Supporting or not supporting is individual choice. He [Dhoni] gave me clarity. [He did as much as he could].”Singh, the star of India’s 2011 World Cup win when Dhoni was the captain, had made a comeback to the ODI side only earlier that year – after last playing the format in December 2013 – and made his ODI best of 150 against England in Cuttack in his second comeback match. But he managed just one more half-century in a run of eight innings after that till he was left out.”Till the 2011 World Cup, MS had a lot of confidence in me and used to tell me that ‘you are my main player’. But after coming back from illness, the game changed and a lot of changes happened in the team,” Singh said. “You can’t pinpoint these things; captains have to take the team forward. So as far as the 2015 World Cup is concerned, you can’t really pinpoint at something. So this is a very personal call.”So I understood that as a captain, sometimes you can’t justify everything because at the end of the day you have to see how the country performs. Every captain supports certain players. I felt MS supported Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja when they struggled a lot. Virat has supported KL. I don’t blame people for not having trust in me when I came back from cancer; I myself took a while to have the same confidence in my game.”Since retiring in June 2019, Singh has featured in the Global T20 Canada league and the T10 League in Abu Dhabi. Recently, he was appointed mentor of the Punjab team ahead of their training camp in Mohali. “I’m looking forward to mentoring. There may be a few international leagues. I haven’t decided on whether I’ll play domestic cricket again, but overall, I have no regrets,” he said. “I wasn’t in a good space mentally [last year], didn’t get chances in the IPL. But now, I’m looking forward to this. I’m attached to Punjab cricket. I want these guys to go on and play for India.”
