Uganda bounce back to wallop Bermuda

Uganda captain Roger Mukasa’s 97 laid the platform for a 189-run thrashing of Bermuda a day after a bitter nine-run loss to Malaysia

Captain Roger Mukasa singlehandedly outscored the opposition at UKM-YSD Oval, his 97 for Uganda laying the platform for a 189-run walloping of Bermuda a day after a bitter nine-run loss to Malaysia at WCL Division Four. Mukasa repelled the Bermuda attack after being sent in at the toss, adding 137 for the second wicket with Hamu Kayondo (55 off 95 balls) to set up an easily defendable total. For the second day in a row, star allrounder Kamau Leverock was left out of the Bermuda lineup for disciplinary reasons. A source informed ESPNcricinfo that Bermuda team management investigated whether they would possibly be allowed a replacement player in their 14-man tournament squad for non-injury reasons, presumably in relation to Leverock after his tirade at team training on Saturday, but were denied.Without Leverock’s runs at the top of the order, Bermuda struggled badly once again as Uganda opened their defence of 249 by using two spinners with the new ball. The strategy was near flawless on what has proven to be a spinners paradise in UKM-YSD Oval’s early days as an international venue as Mohammed Irfan and Frank Nsubuga shredded the Bermuda line-up, both men bowling unbroken ten-over spells to leave Bermuda 51 for 8 after 20 overs.Irfan claimed career-best figures of 6 for 23 while Nsubuga kept pressure at the other end and finished with 2 for 27. Uganda didn’t bowl a single ball of pace in the match as Henry Ssenyondo and Brian Masaba took over from Irfan and Nsubuga to split the last two wickets to bowl Bermuda out for 60 in 21.4 overs. The significant net run rate impact for each side means Uganda is still very much in the promotion hunt at 1-1 while Bermuda will have a very difficult time avoiding relegation at 0-2 as they are yet to face Jersey and Denmark, two of the pre-tournament favourites.

"Told" – Fabrizio Romano shares news Arsenal fans "have been keen to know"

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared a transfer update which he says Arsenal supporters "have been keen to know more about".

Who have Arsenal signed 2023?

Mikel Arteta's side enjoyed their most ambitious summer transfer window to date in preparation for the 2023/2024 Premier League season.

Indeed, the Gunners sealed deals for club-record signing Declan Rice, defender Jurrien Timber, forward Kai Havertz and sweeper keeper David Raya with the four arrivals costing north of £200 million in total.

Arsenal's big-spending window showcased their determination to challenge Man City for yet another domestic crown, coming after they fell just short of the imperious treble-winners last campaign.

The north Londoners also had to ship fringe members of the squad out the other way, in an attempt to balance the books and free up squad space for Arteta.

Arsenal managed to ship a load of unwanted players out either permanently, temporarily or on a free transfer over the last three months.

The list includes Folarin Balogun, Granit Xhaka, Matt Turner, Auston Trusty, Pablo Mari, Kieran Tierney, Rob Holding, Nuno Tavares, Marquinhos, Nicolas Pepe, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

What's the latest Arsenal transfer news?

Arteta's side are reportedly gearing up for January already and could even make a move for Sporting Lisbon starlet Ousmane Diomande once we hit 2024.

The Turkish transfer window is also still open for business, meaning other Arsenal players could well depart if any side shows enough interest before September 15.

One player to be linked with a move to Turkey recently is midfielder Jorginho, who put pen to paper on a move to the Emirates Stadium in January this year.

The Italian's contract expires in June 2024, though; meaning Arsenal have to decide whether they sell now, in the winter or let him leave for free next year.

Romano, sharing an update for CaughtOffside, now has some news on the matter.

He claims that there is actually no chance of Jorginho leaving this week, despite reported interest from Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbache.

“I’m also told there is no chance of Jorginho leaving for a late move to Turkey after some speculation about interest from Fenerbahce," said Romano.

“Arsenal fans have been keen to know more about this, but honestly, from everything I’m hearing, Jorginho was never close to Turkish league move this summer, it was never an option. He’s staying.”

How good is Jorginho?

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho

The former Chelsea ace was once a star at Stamford Bridge, as explained by ex-Blues boss Thomas Tuchel in the summer of 2021.

"Jorgi is a very strategic player," said Tuchel.

"He knows what to do in possession, he can imagine what is going to happen one or two passes ahead and he knows where to help out in short distances and longer distances.

"He knows when to switch the play and not to switch the play. He has a good sense of rhythm. He organises the environment around him and that allows him to show his true abilities in controlling the rhythm of a game.

"As well as this, he is relentless in defence. He wants to help everywhere on the pitch. He has a huge ability to run a lot for the team. Maybe he lacks the high speeds, but he compensates with a lot of work-rate and anticipation in his defensive work."

Wow: Man Utd chiefs are now willing to pay the £49m fee for Barcelona star

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on a “leader” and INEOS are willing to spend big to secure his transfer, according to a recent report.

Man Utd transfer news

Ruben Amorim knows that while he has the understanding and support from the fanbase, he also needs to start winning games despite the injury crisis he now finds himself in. The Red Devils still have the FA Cup and Europa League to play for, but he is fast losing the leeway he was afforded on arrival.

INEOS now consider hijacking transfer to sign £40m playmaker for Man Utd

Man Utd are weighing up whether to join the transfer battle to sign a talented midfielder.

ByBrett Worthington Feb 19, 2025

And as the season draws closer and closer to the end, transfer stories are starting to heat up and the summer is expected to be a busy time for the club, with the boss in desperate need of players who suit his system.

Signing a new attacking midfielder could be on the agenda for Amorim and INEOS this summer, as it’s been reported that United are considering making a move to sign Charles De Ketelaere from Atalanta. Man City are looking at the playmaker as someone to replace Kevin de Bruyne, but United are also interested and could look to beat their rivals to his signature.

However, De Ketelaere is not the only attacking midfielder being looked at by the Red Devils, as according to reports from Spain, United are willing to spend significant money to sign Arda Güler from Real Madrid.

The Turkey international has struggled to make an impact in Spain and, given his lack of game time, a move could be on the cards this summer and United are interested in a deal.

Man Utd taking a closer look at £49m "leader"

But Guler is not the only player United are looking at from La Liga, as according to a report from Spain, Man United are taking a close look at Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, who could be available for a transfer if a suitable offer arrives.

Barcelona'sRonaldAraujo

Araujo only signed a new contract with the Catalan giants in January, a deal that now runs until 2031, but given Barça value the player between 60-70 million euros (£49-57 million), a fee that isn’t a problem to United, he could still leave the club after his career in Catalonia stalled somewhat due to injuries.

The 25-year-old, who has been hailed as a “real leader” by manager Hansi Flick this season, has been at Barcelona since August 2018. It wasn’t until 2020 that he was promoted to the first team and, since then, he has become an integral part of their defence under the various managers they have had in that time.

This season has been a bit disappointing for the centre-back, as a hamstring injury has seen him miss the majority of the campaign up until recently.

Despite his injury problems this season, United are obviously impressed with what they have seen of Araujo, and they believe he’ll improve their backline, so much so they are willing to meet the reported price tag.

Given Lisandro Martínez could be out for the rest of the year, Victor Lindelof looks set to leave at the end of the season and Jonny Evans is expected to retire, then a new centre-back may be needed to help Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Harry Maguire, all of whom have had their own injury problems.

Salah replacement: Meet Liverpool’s forgotten Ben Doak rival

A new era is dawning at Liverpool following the departures of the long-serving James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino this summer.

That midfield trio left a huge void that needed filling and the Red's prime transfer targets were Brighton's Moises Caicedo and Southampton's Romeo Lavia, however, they were beaten to the punch by Chelsea and instead focused their efforts elsewhere.

Despite signing RB Leipzig's Dominik Szoboszlai and Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister to play in their advanced eight positions, Jurgen Klopp still needed a midfield destroyer and their answer to that problem was Stuttgart's Wataru Endo, whose signature underwhelmed in comparison to their former targets.

With that said, Liverpool have put their shortcomings in the transfer market behind them by taking ten points from their opening four matches as victories over Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and a draw against Chelsea extended their unbeaten run to 15 Premier League matches.

Although their strong start can be attributed to the form of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Núñez and new signing Szoboszlai, the huge emergence of youth within the club's first-team picture suggests that the future isn't only looking bright on the field.

In their victory over Villa, Klopp named four players on his bench who were aged 20 and under, including Harvey Elliott, Jarell Quansah, Stefan Bajcetic and 17-year-old Ben Doak, with the latter of that quartet receiving high praise for his impressive pre-season form.

Who is Ben Doak?

Liverpool secured the signature of Doak from Celtic for a compensation fee of £600,000 in March 2022, signing his first professional contract with the Reds in November of that year.

A fast and direct winger, who has been branded by Klopp as a "special boy", is highly regarded alongside Bajcetic and Elliott at Anfield, and it is clear to see why.

Doak has dazzled since joining the club, scoring ten times across Liverpool's underage groups in his first season, attracting the attention of those higher up and earning himself multiple call-ups to the first team.

Liverpool's Ben Doak

During his first five appearances for the club, the Scottish winger stunned fans with his blistering pace and power, which he showcased in a 2-2 draw against Wolves in the FA Cup last season.

Following his excellent start to his Liverpool career, legend and fellow Scotsman Kenny Daglish lavished praise on the teenage sensation, lauding him as "brilliant" since breaking into the first-team picture.

Although Mohamed Salah's future is closed for now, the Egyptian could still depart in the future and given his age, his contract at Liverpool and the fact that Saudi Arabian clubs are desperate to get him, the possibility of him departing next summer is high.

While replacing Salah – should he depart – would cost upwards of £100m, Liverpool could save themselves a lot of money by dipping into their goldmine of youth prospects. Doak is leading that charge, but fellow golden boy Kaide Gordon can't be forgotten.

How good is Kaide Gordon?

A fleet-footed winger with tremendous ball-striking ability, Gordon's sharp rise onto the scene at Liverpool during the 21/22 was marked by his debut goal against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup, becoming the club's second-youngest scorer at 16-years-old.

Following this debut, Gordon would appear a further three times in that campaign, including a Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal, as he helped his side advance to the final against Chelsea – a match they would triumph in and lift the trophy.

Liverpool youngster Kaide Gordon

Lauded as "exceptional" by his manager, Gordon could put recent injury troubles behind him and become a handy addition to Liverpool's first team.

The Reds will be battling across all fronts this season as they attempt to go deep into every competition and Gordon will hope his chance of game time is increased by Klopp's side competing in the Europa League.

Since joining the club from Derby for a fee believed to be around £3m in 2021, Gordon has enjoyed a fruitful period in the youth setup at Liverpool, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in 24 appearances which are returns that have seen him considered for a place in the first-team.

After making his return to action in Liverpool U21's defeat against Middlesbrough last weekend, the "forgotten" winger – as he was described by RedMen TV's Paul Machin – will hope he can kick on from there and rival Doak for a spot in Klopp's starting XI, returning to the form that saw the German wax-lyrical about his talents.

Speaking after his debut goal for the club, Klopp said: "He is a special kid, everyone knows that. He is really calm, great finisher. But he can improve he needs to get more involved in the game."

Talent doesn't fade overnight and although injuries could have dented his confidence, the 18-year-old sharpshooter is one of many talented youngsters that the Merseyside club have at their disposal. Watch out Doak.

Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales condemn Australia to heaviest defeat after record-smashing 481 for 6

On the same ground where England plundered the previous record England thrashed 21 sixes and 41 fours in becoming the first side to reach 450 in ODI history

The Report by George Dobell19-Jun-20180:42

‘Very proud day for us as a group’ – Morgan

England 481 for 6 (Hales 147, Bairstow 139) beat Australia 239 (Rashid 4-47, Moeen 3-28) by 242 runs
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsEngland thrashed the highest score in the history of ODI cricket to set up the most crushing defeat – in terms of runs – ever inflicted upon Australia. On the same Trent Bridge ground where they plundered the previous record – 444 for 3 against Pakistan in August 2016 in the most recent completed ODI on the ground – England thrashed 21 sixes and 41 fours in becoming the first side to reach 450 in ODI history. Only once in the 56-year history of List A cricket – when Surrey scored 496 for 4 against Gloucestershire at The Oval in 2007 – has any side scored more. The result means England have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Australia have now lost five ODI series in succession and eight of their last nine ODIs against England. Indeed, they have won only two of their last 16 ODIs against all opponents. It is the first time England have won back-to-back ODI series against Australia since 1986-87 and, with two games to go, they now have a chance to complete their first 5-0 whitewash over them. They won 4-0 in 2012 with one game abandoned due to poor weather. The foundation of England’s total was high-class centuries from Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales and the quickest half-century in their ODI history from Eoin Morgan. For Bairstow, in magnificent form, it was his fourth ODI century in six innings and his sixth in 19 since his recall less than a year ago. He now has the highest batting average – 65.76 – of any man to open in ODI cricket on more than 10 occasions. The fact he is one of only two men in the top 50 of that list with a strike-rate in excess of 100 (his is 114.19) demonstrates how well he is batting. The fact that the other is his opening partner, Jason Roy, demonstrates how the game has developed and how England have been at the vanguard of that change. The pair combined perfectly here. With Roy murderous against the short ball – he played a hook in the opening overs that travelled far enough to require a visa – and Bairstow in the sort of form that makes a length delivery an opportunity to drive or pull, they posted an opening stand of 159 in 19.3 overs; the 10th highest opening partnership against Australia in ODI history. There were a couple of nervous moments. Australia called for a review when they thought they detected an inside edge on one from Stanlake that nipped back at Roy (replays showed the ball brushed his trousers), while Bairstow was dropped on 30 by Marcus Stoinis running back from mid-off and reprieved on review having been given out leg before attempting to sweep Ashton Agar. Those moments apart, this was one-way traffic. On the sort of pitch that most batsmen would like to whisk to Paris for the weekend – and most bowlers would like to never see again – England gorged and feasted on runs until they dripped down their chins.Hales soon dispelled any thought that the wicket of Roy – attempting an unwise second run – would ease Australia’s pain. A day after he had admitted – quite rightly – that he was likely to be the man to make way once Ben Stokes returned, he provided a strong case for his retention with a 62-ball century; the sixth-fastest in England’s history, all of which have come since the 2015 World Cup. Back on his home ground – the ground where he thrashed 171 against Pakistan in 2016 – he showed tremendous power but also nice placement and shot selection. Nearly two-thirds of his runs were heaved through – or over – the leg side.It looked, for a while, as if England might reach 500. Despite losing Bairstow, heaving down the throat of deep midwicket, and Jos Buttler, deceived by a slower ball, Morgan thrashed a 21-ball half-century. Having recovered from the back spasm that kept him out of the Cardiff match, Morgan not only recorded the quickest fifty in England’s ODI history but passed Ian Bell’s record to become England’s most prolific ODI run-scorer in the process. While Australia tried just about everything in the field – going round the wicket, bowling short, bowling full, even trying eight bowlers – none of it made much difference. AJ Tye, who became just the 11th man to concede 100 in an ODI innings and just the fourth to do so in fewer than 10 overs, had the ugliest figures but this was a day all of them will wake up screaming about in years to come.Australia’s reply started well enough. D’Arcy Short carved David Willey’s first ball for six and his second for four, while Travis Head brushed off a painful blow from a Mark Wood bouncer (Wood exceeded 91 mph in that first spell) to help Australia keep up with the rate for the first 12 overs. But that target – that vast target – required endless risk-taking. And after Short chipped one to mid-on, Head poked a return catch to Moeen Ali and Shaun Marsh lofted to long-on. Aaron Finch, attempting to repeat a six clobbered over long-on, was deceived by one nicely held back by Adil Rashid (Finch, moved into the middle-order to combat spin, has been dismissed by it three times in 13 balls this series) and Marcus Stoinis attempted an unwise second to Bairstow’s arm in the deep. By the time Glenn Maxwell was brilliantly caught at long-on by a leaping Liam Plunkett, it was clear this was to be a rout. Never had England won by such a large run margin in ODI cricket. England’s spinners – a key point of difference between the sides in this series – finished with seven wickets between them. Are such conditions – white balls offering little lateral movement and surfaces offering certainty of pace and carry – good for the game? The debate will continue. Certainly there were aspects of this match – mostly some outrageous hitting – that created an entertaining and memorable spectacle. And there is no doubt that the groundstaff at Trent Bridge have produced exactly what was asked of them. We can expect more of this – and not just at Trent Bridge – during next year’s World Cup.There is, though, an inflationary aspect to boundaries. At some stage, they begin to lose just a little of their novelty and, perhaps, appeal. Suffice to say, all pretence of maintaining a balance between bat and ball disappears in such circumstances. Bowlers compete in much the same way a clay pigeon does when someone goes shooting. It was a remarkable day’s cricket, but you wouldn’t want every day to be like this. There are a couple more caveats, too. This Australia attack, missing at least three first-choice seamers as it is, is not the strongest and the relatively short boundaries meant that, a couple of times, top-edges carried for sixes. On Australian grounds they may have gone to hand. But there have been weaker attacks and shorter boundaries. This was still an incredible effort from a remarkable England batting line-up that is playing wonderfully fearless, innovative and powerful cricket. As this series has progressed, it has become hard to fathom how roles have reversed since the 2015 World Cup when one of these sides lifted the trophy and the other was humiliated. It will amount to little until England do it in a global tournament but you can be sure that no side – and certainly no bowling attack – will relish facing them in conditions like this.

L!: Como o senhor avalia a gestão do legado olímpico?

Spurs nearly signed £34k-p/w "wall" instead of Micky van de Ven this summer

Tottenham Hotspur were considering a summer deal to sign an exciting young defender instead of Micky Van De Ven, according to a reliable journalist.

Tottenham's summer signings

Before September 1st, Ange Postecoglou recruited nine fresh faces in the form of Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario, Alejo Veliz, Ashley Phillips, Manor Solomon and Van De Ven, and they have already been linked with several new targets.

Ahead of January, Daniel Levy has reportedly taken Norwich City goalkeeper Dylan Thompson on trial, whilst he is also plotting moves for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino and Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba, though it’s the latter’s teammate who could have previously made the switch to N17.

Meanwhile, Piero Hincapie first emerged as a target for the Lilywhites back in January having held talks under the management of former boss Antonio Conte, but eventually, the hierarchy were priced out of a deal before the deadline at the start of the year.

Now, Ecuador’s centre-back is strongly on the radar of Premier League rivals Liverpool, who are exploring the conditions of a deal, but should the following update be believed, the 21-year-old was almost on his way to North London.

Piero Hincapie transfer update…

Taking to X, The Daily Mirror’s Ryan Taylor revealed in a Piero Hincapie transfer update that Spurs weighed up an approach for the star over the summer, but in the end, decided to pursue Van De Ven instead:

Moises Caicedo’s agent Manu Sierra says he’s held dialogue with Liverpool over his second high-profile client — Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie. Spurs looked at signing the left-sided defender before landing Micky van de Ven.”

Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

How good is Piero Hincapie?

According to football talent scout Jacek Kulig, Hincapie is an “Ecuadorian Wall” for the solidity he provides at the heart of Bayer Leverkusen’s backline, which he showed in his high standard of performances last season, so it doesn’t make sense that Tottenham didn’t pursue him as well as Van de Ven.

Sponsored by Adidas (Transfermarkt – Hincapie profile), the left-footed ace averaged 2.5 clearances and two aerial wins per game during the previous term in the Bundesliga (WhoScored – Hincapie statistics), but he’s also capable of making a positive impact at the opposite end of the pitch.

Since joining Xabi Alonso’s side, the £34k-per-week earner (Bayer Leverkusen salaries) has posted five goal contributions (three goals and two assists) in 81 appearances, which highlights his ability to pose a threat to an opposition’s defence from set pieces.

Furthermore, Hincapie has previously operated at left-back and slightly higher up in the midfield alongside his usual role at centre-back, so he could have been a versatile option for Postecoglou to have in the building, and we feel he'd be an excellent future signing to back-up and potentially succeed Cristian Romero, partnering Van de Ven in the long term.

Rangers: Ibrox side could get £6m gem firing by appointing "kamikaze" 55 y/o

Glasgow Rangers hit an all-time low on Thursday evening, losing 2-1 to Aris Limassol, a side who are currently ranked 195th in the continent, behind clubs such as Wigan Athletic and Arminia Bielefeld, putting it into perspective in regard to just how woeful a result it was.

Michael Beale was relieved of his duties last Sunday after succumbing to a 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen in the Premiership and the Gers' chances at securing a first league crown since 2021 appear to be all but over, and it is only October.

Heading into the 2023/24 season, Beale had embarked on a major overhaul during the summer transfer window which saw nine new arrivals join the club, while crowd favourites such as Scott Arfield, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent all left at the end of their contracts.

These new signings were supposed to herald in a new era for the club, one which was to be filled with success and a return to the summit of Scottish football, unfortunately, it hasn’t quite worked out that way.

Why was Michael Beale sacked by Rangers?

To put it simply, his lack of identity or any sort of playing style meant the Light Blues showed no progression on the field of play, leading to poor results.

Rangers boss Michael Beale.

Indeed, the club have won only eight games from 16 during the current season, a terrible record and perhaps one which could’ve been avoided had Beale given some of his new signings more chances, with Danilo being a great example.

The 5 foot 8 Brazilian striker joined from Feyenoord for a fee in the region of £6m following a season where he netted 14 goals across all competitions, winning the Eredivisie title in the process.

He was even lauded as an “amazing instinctive finisher” by Dutch football expert Melvin Dupper, further indicating how impressive a player he was.

It certainly looked like a shrewd move bringing him to Ibrox, yet he has started just four games so far during his Gers career, playing ten times in total. The striker has been let down by Beale and if the former QPR boss had more confidence in his biggest summer signing, perhaps the Gers wouldn’t be in this mess.

The club now need a manager who can not only get a tune out of the club stalwarts such as James Tavernier and Connor Goldson but also get Danilo fit and firing as he has the quality which could prove to be a danger in the final third.

Who has been linked with the Rangers job?

Former Light Blues defender Kevin Muscat – who played for the club during their treble winning 2002/03 campaign – has shown interest in the vacant role at the club and reportedly interviewed for the position just a few days ago. The Australian is currently managing Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos and has won league titles in both Japan and Australia during his managerial career.

Pascal Jansen, the AZ Alkmaar boss, is also reportedly eager to be the next boss of the club having enjoyed a decent spell at the Eredivisie side since taking over AZ in December 2020, frequently mixing with the big three of Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.

Philippe Clement, a three time title winner in Belgium, could potentially be a left field appointment as he is now a free agent following his sacking from AS Monaco just a few months ago yet one name hasn’t really come to the fore yet must be included in potential options – Kjetil Knutsen.

Who is Kjetil Knutsen?

New York Times journalist Rory Smith was speaking on the BBC Radio 5 Live Monday Night Club just a day after Beale was sacked and named the Bodo/Glimt head coach as one of the potential names who is under “consideration” for the post.

The 55-year-old has impressed during his spell with the Norwegian outfit, holding a two points per game average while winning 144 of the 244 matches he has coached at the club.

He has led them to two top flight titles and they are currently closing in on a third title in four years and this winning mentality would be a huge advantage should he take over at the club in the coming weeks.

Although a slightly left field choice, Knutsen has already secured two victories over Celtic, winning both legs of their Europa League intermediate stage clash during the 2021/22 season and this will endear him to the Gers support. He even defeated Jose Mourinho’s Roma side in the group stages during the same competition.

Could Kjetil Knutsen bring out the best of Danilo at Rangers?

Famed for his attacking approach, Knutsen could bring the Gers back having some sort of identity and his tactical style has been praised by many, including his own captain Ulrik Saltnes, who said his style of play was “kamikaze” and this could bode well for Danilo.

He usually deploys an attacking 4-3-3 setup, which could work out well for the Brazilian, who would be able to operate in the middle of a front three, flanked by two pacy wingers or creative talents.

This system enabled Bodo/Glimt to score a staggering 103 goals in their title win back in 2020 as the coach clearly gave his players plenty of attacking freedom and there are quite a few talented attackers in the Rangers team who require this licence to showcase their abilities.

Knutsen would certainly bring out the Danilo who scored ten goals in the Dutch top flight last season and maybe even spur him on to bigger numbers for the rest of the current season.

James Bisgrove has a massive decision to make soon, and it could potentially change the fortunes of the Ibrox side for the foreseeable future.

There appears to be no shortage of candidates who have put themselves forward in the running, but the quiet Norwegian may just be one of the better options out there at the moment.

He may not be a big name, but this doesn’t really matter if he can prove it on the field. Ange Postecoglou was hardly well known to European audiences, yet his impact at Celtic ensured they won five out of six domestic trophies.

It would be a gamble, but nothing good ever comes from remaining in the comfort zone and Bisgrove must take note of this when casting his eye over potential successors to Beale.
