Wolves Set For Exciting Transfer Window Under Lopetegui

Wolverhampton Wanderers could be set for a 'busy summer' under Julen Lopetegui that could yield major changes at Molineux, according to journalist Alex Crook.

What's the latest transfer news involving outgoings at Wolverhampton Wanderers?

As per Football Insider, Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes is attracting interest from Liverpool despite the Old Gold choosing to remove a £44 million release clause inserted into his contract at Molineux.

The report also states that Wolves 'remain realistic' over their chances of being able to keep the Portuguese midfielder and would likely accept a bid of £50 million for his services.

As per The Telegraph, club captain Ruben Neves could also be set to move on this summer, with Wolves set to demand a fee in the region of £40 million before considering sanctioning his departure, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona all monitoring his situation.

Wolves winger Adama Traore is out of contract at the end of this term and his agent Jorge Mendes has recently offered him to Serie A giants AC Milan, according to Calciomercato.

Veteran duo Diego Costa and Joao Moutinho are also set to see their deals in the West Midlands expire upon the conclusion of 2022/23 alongside full-back Nelson Semedo, as per FootballTransfers, raising questions over whether they will also need to be replaced heading into next term.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Crook thinks that Wolves boss Lopetegui will be given financial support to help reshape his squad in the summer.

Crook said: "They've got Moutinho who I think will go, Traore's out of contract, so if Neves goes, that's three of the old guard that will have moved on. I'm not sure you'll get much more out of Costa.

"I think it could be a busy summer of ins and outs. This is the first summer transfer window under Julen Lopetegui.

"My understanding when they appointed him is that they told him he'd be backed in the transfer market, which they did in January, so I think he would expect to be backed again."

Who could Wolverhampton Wanderers look to sign this summer?

As per 90min, Wolves are keen on bringing Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek to Molineux in the summer; however, they face stiff competition from Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leicester, Newcastle, West Ham, Lazio, Napoli and AC Milan.

Folarin Balogun in action against Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.

The same outlet also report that the Wanderers are keen on Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, who could be set for an uncertain future at the Emirates once he returns from loan club Reims in the off-season.

El Correo also claim that Osasuna defender David Garcia is on the radar for the Old Gold as Lopetegui aims to reshuffle his squad heading into 2023/24.

One thing is for sure; it looks set to be a busy next few months in the West Midlands, which could see some new faces walk through the door as Wolves aim to improve on an inconsistent 2022/23 campaign.

Liverpool Eyeing Move For £163m "Sensation"

Liverpool are thought to have set their sights on a move for Flamengo teenager Matheus Franca.

What’s the latest news on Liverpool and Franca?

The Reds look set for a busy transfer window this summer following a disappointing 2022/23 season which has resulted in no silverware and a late push for European football. Central midfield additions are thought to be at the top of the club’s wishlist, with FSG and Jurgen Klopp potentially making up to five signings ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

The likes of Chelsea's Mason Mount, Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch and Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister have all been linked with moves to Merseyside to bolster Klopp's midfield options, but it looks as if Franca is a new target at Anfield, with an update emerging in the last 48 hours.

Brazilian outlet Torcedores shared a story regarding Franca, claiming he is considered one of the most coveted players in the football market. The report suggests that the player is in the sights of Liverpool, as well as Premier League rivals Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

Arsenal are trying to steal a march in the race for Franca’s services, with the player having a €185m (£163m) release clause in his contract which runs until 2027.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Who is Franca?

Franca is just 19 years of age and is primarily an attacking midfielder who can also play as a left-winger or a second striker and has made 44 senior appearances for his current employers, scoring eight times.

The Brazilian is sponsored by Nike and has been called a “sensation” by journalist Aaron Stokes. Football talent scout Jacek Kulig is also a fan of the youngster, labelling him as a “great midfielder and great striker”, adding that “he can play almost everywhere”.

Therefore, in the long term, securing Franca’s services could be an extremely shrewd move by Anfield officials, however, they may need to get a move on and look to lay the groundwork over a transfer, as Arsenal have recently sent a scout to watch the player in action this week.

"Unreal attacking coach" ready to accept Tottenham Hotspur job

Tottenham Hotspur have made progress in their talks with Julian Nagelsmann, and he is now ready to accept the manager's job, according to recent reports from Germany.

What's the latest Julian Nagelsmann news?

Having left his role as Bayern Munich manager, Nagelsmann has been linked with a move to the Premier League, being named as Tottenham's preferred choice, however at one stage a move did not look likely.

The German is said to have rejected a move to north London earlier this month, having been in favour of waiting until the summer before making a decision regarding his future, with Chelsea also lurking.

Now, the 35-year-old is said to have pulled out of the race to take over at Stamford Bridge, with Fabrizio Romano detailing that will be his "final decision", in what could be a major boost to Spurs' chances.

According to a report from BILD (via Sport Witness), the young manager has previously turned down the opportunity to take over at Tottenham, but he may now have changed his mind.

Spurs showed an interest in appointing the former Bayern Munich boss immediately after he was sacked by the Bundesliga club, but he rebuffed their advances, insisting that he wanted some time out of the game.

The Lilywhites are now said to have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race for the Landsberg Am Lech-born tactician, and he would now be ready to accept the job, although complex negotiations would need to take place beforehand.

Should Tottenham appoint Julian Nagelsmann?

Former manager Antonio Conte was much-maligned by the media for a "boring" brand of football during his time with Spurs, and there are plenty of indications that Nagelsmann would bring a more entertaining style of play to N17.

Journalist Raj Chohan has hailed the former RB Leipzig boss as an "unreal attacking coach", while Zach Lowy has described him as "progressive", which will no doubt come as exciting news to a significant number of fans.

Julian Nagelsmann managing Bayern Munich

There are some doubts about appointing the up-and-coming manager, with journalist Valentina Maceri explaining his lack of experience meant it was sometimes hard to deal with big-name players at Bayern, while his tactics were considered overly-complicated.

That said, Nagelsmann now has experience of managing a top club, which will stand him in good stead, and he did manage to win three trophies during his time at the Allianz Arena, so Tottenham should definitely look to bring him in.

Wolves living a nightmare losing 20 goal player

It’s been a season of reflection for Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have followed on less promisingly from their 10th place finish last year to sitting in 14th currently as the 2022/23 Premier League campaign comes to a close later this month.

There have been lots of talking points for Wolves, as a squad bursting with talent has underperformed in a climate of changing managers and playing styles.

There’s no denying the influx of quality that Nuno Espirito Santo introduced to Wolverhampton from Portugal, however the Portuguese manager missed a trick in not developing one particular star into the system.

Pedro Goncalves signed for Wolves from Valencia U19 to join the clubs’ academy with the hope to blossom into a Premier League starter.

His aspirations were cut short as he returned to his home country two years later, having made just one appearance for the first team in the Carabao Cup against Sheffield Wednesday during his stay.

The winger was sold to Famalicao for peanuts in 2019, where he was shortly after snatched by Sporting Lisbon for around £5m, and the rest is painful viewing for Wolves.

What could have been for Pedro Goncalves at Wolves?

The 24-year-old has broken onto the European scene in dramatic fashion, showing those in the Midlands what they’re missing in a player that has had an outstanding season.

Playing as both a left-winger and central midfielder, the "astonishing" Goncalves – as lauded by The Times' Henry Winter – has scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 appearances for Sporting this season in all competitions.

To put such goal scoring form into context, his former club have found the net just 29 times themselves in the Premier League so far this campaign. Now flaunting a release clause of €80m (£70m), Wolves are left with a nightmare of what could have been had the Chaves-born star had time to flourish at the club.

Sporting CP's Pedro Goncalves celebrates scoring against Arsenal.

The versatile attacker has flexed his ability against English opposition three times this season already, sparking the conversation as to what he could’ve added to the Premier League.

He was the talk of the tie as Sporting knocked Arsenal out of the Europa League, assisting in the first leg and scoring a wonder goal at the Emirates back in March. Prior to his Europa League involvement, the 24-year-old featured in the Champions League, where he assisted against Tottenham Hotspur.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but not so much for Wolves who let an overly encouraging young talent slip from their grasp.

During his time in the Midlands, the Portuguese attacker spent his time with the club’s development squad, where he was managed by Rob Edwards. Edwards spoke to Sky Sports earlier this season on Goncalves’ rise in Europe, admitting that the budding star’s success did “not come as a surprise” to him following their time together in England.

Coming towards the end of the season, it has become more evident as to what the youngster could’ve given Wolves, however, the outcome has seen a talent that suffered a confidence denting move find his potential on the biggest stages in Europe.

Wolves Could Have Neves Heir In Young Academy Star

Wolverhampton Wanderers have had an impressive turnaround this season, going from bottom of the league in November to edging closer to the top ten as the end of the campaign beckons.

A lot of credit for Wolves’ switch in form goes to Julen Lopetegui, who took over from Bruno Lage in the winter when the side were threatening relegation at the bottom at the time of his appointment.

With three games remaining, the ex-Real Madrid manager will look ahead to the summer break with a chance to review his short time in charge and propose changes to take forward to the 2023/24 campaign.

The end of the season is an exciting time for the academy also, as players that have ventured on loan make their return to Molineux at vital moments of their budding careers. The most excitement to walk back through the gates at Compton will undoubtedly be Luke Cundle.

Who is Luke Cundle?

The 21-year-old Cundle has said his farewells to Swansea City now after a year-long loan in the Championship.

The youngster made a strong impression on the South Wales side, making 32 appearances in the second division, contributing to an impressive eight goals from central midfield.

The Warrington-born starlet showed "real promise" – as per journalist Josh Bunting – scoring three times and registering four assists during his time with the Swans, asserting himself as a regular starter, starting 21 games.

Having now returned to Wolves after averaging a Sofascore match rating of 6.78 this season, he will be looking to impose himself in Lopetegui’s plans for the first time.

With the speculated departure of Ruben Neves looking likely this summer, there is an opportunity for the Englishman to break into the first-team squad, with the two having a range of similarities to their game.

Soccer Football – FA Cup Third Round – Wolverhampton Wanderers v Sheffield United – Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton, Britain – January 9, 2022 Wolverhampton Wanderers' Luke Cundle shakes hands with Sheffield United's Conor Hourihane after the match REUTERS/Peter Powell

The youngster in fact topped the Portuguese star for a number of attributes in midfield this season as per Sofascore’s average numbers per 90.

Cundle maintained a passing accuracy rate of 89%, with Neves scoring 84% and racked up three more assists than the 26-year-old, showing his ability to control the midfield.

On that evidence, they are both fine playmakers who display radiant composure. A further boon is that the youngster has already been well received by the Molineux faithful after scoring against bitter rivals West Brom in his final game in Wales.

Swansea boss Russel Martin has lauded the 21-year-old’s “willingness to work” and explained his playing style as one where he can "show people how good he is" through his desire to be involved so often.

A successful loan spell has come at the perfect time for the midfielder, who now faces the opportunity to impress Lopetegui this summer before the Premier League season gets back underway in August.

Time will tell if Cundle can imprint his talent on the Spaniard’s plans, but there is little to question regarding the talent he possesses. He could well be the perfect man to replace Neves should he leave.

Chelsea Make Contact To Sign £65k-p/w Titan For Pochettino

Chelsea have made contact with Inter Milan to let them know that they are happy to sign their goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, according to reports.

What's the latest on Onana to Chelsea?

Todd Boehly is reportedly set to enter the market for a new number one during the upcoming window despite Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga's contracts both not expiring for another two years, and with Mauricio Pochettino appearing likely to be taking over from Frank Lampard at the end of the season after reaching a verbal agreement to become manager, he would be expected to have an input on any fresh faces.

The Athletic first credited the Blues with an interest in Onana three years ago, so they are clearly long-term admirers of their £65k-per-week target, and the Premier League outfit were given a huge boost in their pursuit back in February after being alerted to his potential availability with the Serie A giants needing to offload some of their most prized assets to raise transfer funds, something that the owner is now looking to capitalise on.

According to 90min, Chelsea, alongside top-flight rivals Tottenham Hotspur, have both "indicated" to Inter that they are "willing" to sign Onana ahead of the 2023/24 season. The Stamford Bridge side are happy to complete a deal for the shot-stopper, who they have been "closely monitoring", for a cut-price, and would be open to sending Kepa or Mendy the opposite way in a part-exchange switch.

Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Would Onana be a good signing for Chelsea?

Having been hailed a "charismatic" player between the sticks by talent scout Jacek Kulig, not to mention his excellent track record, we think Onana would be the perfect man to take hold of the No 1 gloves in SW6.

The 6 foot 3 ace has kept 107 clean sheets in 293 appearances throughout his career, including 16 in 34 at Inter, as per Transfermarkt, with his impressive performances at the back having seen him receive three man-of-the-match awards this season from WhoScored. The Cameroon World Cup participant has also recorded 46 saves from 63 shots on target against, giving him a save percentage of 74.6%.

Finally, Onana has a very strong range of passing when playing out from the back having completed all of his 171 short passes and 308 of his 316 medium passes this term, via FBref, so is a well-rounded 'keeper and one that we think would only excel further under the guidance of Pochettino.

Have applied for coach's position – Shastri

Former India team director Ravi Shastri has applied for the post of national head coach

PTI06-Jun-2016Former India team director Ravi Shastri has applied for the post of national head coach. Shastri, who worked with the team from August 2014 to April 2016, confirmed his application to on Monday. His contract as team director had ended with India’s exit from the World T20 in March.”Yes, I have applied for the chief coach’s post today morning. I have e-mailed all the requisite documents that were asked for in the advertisement,” Shastri said.Asked if he had prepared any presentation or roadmap, Shastri said: “Whatever is required by the BCCI, I have provided them. If you ask me whether I am confident or not, all I can say is that my job was to apply for the post and I have done that. I cannot comment on anything else.”Under Shastri, who had taken over as director in 2014, India made it to semi-finals of successive global events – the 2015 World Cup and the 2016 World T20, and also climbed to No. 1 on the Test rankings for a period of eight weeks until Australia took over in February 2016. In this period, India also won their first limited-overs bilateral series in Australia, by whitewashing the hosts 3-0 in a T20 series.Apart from Shastri, current chairman of selectors and former India coach Sandeep Patil has also thrown his hat in the ring. Patil had earlier coached India back in 1996, taking over from Ajit Wadekar who stepped down after India’s semi-final loss to Sri Lanka in the 1996 World Cup semi-final. Patil’s tenure was a forgettable one; he was replaced within six months. However, Shastri’s team of support staff – Sanjay Bangar, R Sridhar and B Arun – have not yet applied as BCCI sources believe that they would like to continue in their earlier roles depending on the requirements of the board.

Tottenham: Spurs Make Offer To Appoint "Genius" Manager

Tottenham Hotspur have made an "important proposal" to Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti as chairman Daniel Levy keeps up the hunt for a new manager, according to reports.

Who could Spurs appoint as manager?

The north Londoners, well over a month after parting company with former head coach Antonio Conte, are said to be stepping up their chase for his replacement.

Reports in the last week have suggested that Levy has completed the due-diligence stage of his search, having assessed multiple candidates whilst holding discussions with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique (The Evening Standard).

The free agent duo aren't solely attracting Tottenham's real interest, though, as Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen and even Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim are rumoured to be of interest.

Spurs have however recently missed out on appointing Burnley boss Vincent Kompany after they were repeatedly linked, with the Belgian putting pen to paper on fresh terms at Turf Moor.

Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti.

The Premier League side are weighing up moves for new candidates on a regular basis, it would seem, as Serie A-winning coach Spalletti has emerged as a fairly new target in the last week.

Now, Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia, appearing as a guest on 7 Gold’s Il Processo (via Area Napoli and Sport Witness), claims the 64-year-old has an "important proposal" from Spurs.

As well as the Lilywhites, it is also believed Roma are potentially eyeing him to replace Jose Mourinho.

When asked about Spalletti's future, Bargiggia explained:

“Why did the manager release certain statements [Napoli exercising one year extension], proving to be rather cold on the hypothesis of a renewal? The problem is that the Tuscan had an important proposal from Tottenham. Spalletti earns €2.7m a season, elsewhere they can guarantee him a very high salary.

“Then came two other potential proposals, not yet so concrete. One is PSG, even if Mourinho is more likely to go there. The second is sensational: a return to Rome. I repeat, however, there is nothing official.”

What could Spalletti bring to Spurs?

Possessing both the necessary experience and a proven track record of winning silverware, we believe Spalletti could actually be an exciting option for Levy.

The former Zenit St.Petersburg boss has won a grand total of eight major trophies, including this season's Scudetto, not to mention he encourages an attack-minded brand of football.

Called an 'genius' manager by Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Spalletti's current Napoli deal also runs out in 2024.
