Rangers’ 43-Touch "Dangerman" Took His Chance Today

Glasgow Rangers returned to winning ways this afternoon at Ibrox as they clawed back the deficit to nine points in the Premiership title race, albeit on a temporary basis.

The 5-2 victory over St Mirren wasn’t without a scare or two, with the Paisley outfit twice equalising through Mark O’Hara and the scores were tied at 2-2 heading into the final ten minutes of the match.

A flurry of goals followed, with Alfredo Morelos netting twice and late substitute Scott Arfield also getting on the scoresheet. The result means Michael Beale has only been on the wrong end of defeat twice during his spell as manager, both to Celtic.

Todd Cantwell was impressive yet again. The Englishman received a Sofascore rating of 9.5/10 for his display, comfortably the best player on the pitch as he added two assists to his early goal.

The former Norwich City player has been a shrewd signing, and he also chipped in with two key passes, five shots in total and four tackles throughout. However, it was Fashion Sakala who took his opportunity well, enjoying a solid performance against the Buddies.

How did Fashion Sakala perform for Rangers against St Mirren?

The Zambian has enjoyed success under Beale having been frozen out of the starting XI earlier in the season by former boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Under the Englishman, Sakala has scored six goals and grabbed seven assists, and it’s no wonder he was dubbed a “dangerman” by Rangers Review journalist Joshua Barrie before the recent Old Firm clash.

Against St Mirren, the 26-year-old was deployed in a slightly unfamiliar left-wing role due to an injury to Ryan Kent, although he has starred in this position before, most notably in a crucial win over Hibernian at the start of March.

Sakala scored the Gers’ second goal this afternoon while registering three key passes and five shots in total, clearly demonstrating how much of an attacking threat he posed the opposition defence.

The winger was successful with four of his eight dribble attempts and took 43 touches throughout his stint on the pitch, and despite not starting a match for a few weeks, he showed no sign of sluggishness in his performance.

The showing will have pleased Beale greatly and proves that he has solid strength in depth within his team, which could prove to be crucial heading into next season.

Positive Injury News For £70k-p/w West Ham Defender

Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna is in contention to play in the Europa Conference League.

What's the latest Angelo Ogbonna and West Ham injury news?

While the club's Premier League form has been iffy at best this season, they've continued to march on with real promise in Europe.

Indeed, David Moyes and co managed to win all their group stages games, as well as both legs of their last-16 clash with AEK Larnaca.

However, they had to settle for a draw when they made the trip to Belgium for their quarter-final match against Gent which ended 1-1 last week.

Seeing as Ogbonna has played in all but two of West Ham's Europa Conference League matches so far, it will be great if he's fit to play on Thursday night.

And despite missing the league draw with Arsenal on Sunday, it seems as though the experienced Italian could return to feature against Gent.

Indeed, while speaking on The West Ham Way Podcast, Ex said (2:43): “Obviously, Ogbonna was due to start the game on Sunday. But he'd had a knock in training, I think which had been a result of the actual game, I think from memory, he went down for quite a long time against Gent on Thursday.

"I assume the injuries from there – and Nayef Aguerd also picked up an injury in the same game.

"But both of them should be available for Thursday, or Bournemouth at the latest. So it's not a massive thing.

"But yeah, Ogbonna's absence was a very last minute thing. And that explains it, but both of them are just minor knocks."

Will Ogbonna start for West Ham against Gent?

When speaking ahead of the 2-2 draw with Arsenal, Moyes explained the absences from his backline, telling the press: “They both tried training yesterday. We thought one of them might make it but they haven’t made it. They’re both carrying knocks. But we don’t think they’re serious.”

And now after Ex's update, it sounds as though there have been no setbacks during the week leading up the West Ham's big European match on Thursday.

West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna

That's great news as Ogbonna has been excellent in Europe so far. Indeed, as per SofaScore, he has delivered an average 7.14 match rating each game, keeping four clean sheets in seven matches.

All in all, then, it wouldn't be a surprise if the £70k-p/w defender returned to the starting team against Gent.

No Contact Made With 51 y/o Over Spurs Job

Journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have made "zero contact" with Mauricio Pochettino about becoming their new manager.

What is the latest on Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs?

The Premier League side are currently on the hunt for a new boss having fired Antonio Conte, with Cristian Stellini being placed in charge until the end of the season.

London rivals Chelsea are in a similar position and they seem to be seriously considering a move for former Spurs boss Pochettino.

With that being the case, we might expect to soon learn that Tottenham have also reached out to the 51-year-old in an attempt to get him back on board before the Blues can make him one of their own.

However, when talking about this on his YouTube channel, Gold revealed the surprising news that Pochettino has not had any contact with the north London outfit.

He explained: "Spurs have shown zero interest in reappointing Mauricio Pochettino.

"They haven't. I've been asking around, asking people around Poch and everything, and from what I understand – and also, this is kind of coming from people within the club as well – there has been no contact made by anyone from Spurs with Mauricio Pochettino at this point.

"I double-double-checked before starting this video, but there's been no kind of feelers put out to him from Spurs of whether he'd be interested in coming back, which is huge, really, when you see the calls for him to come back from the fans, the chants at the stadiums."

Will Pochettino want to join Spurs?

It certainly is surprising that Spurs and Daniel Levy haven't made any contact with Pochettino yet. After all, Gold has explained in the past that the club's own fans have been chanting the Argentinian's name at games.

Most recently, during a fortunate win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the home crowd were signing: "Mauricio Pochettino, he's magic, you know."

Seeing as the 51-year-old oversaw 293 games with Spurs, averaging 1.84 points per game and taking them to a Champions League final along the way, it's not hard to see why plenty would love to see him back in north London.

MauricioPochettino linked with Chelsea

And in some sections of the media, Pochettino has been touted as a leading candidate to make a return – which is why it's so surprising Levy hasn't even reached out to the manager.

With that being the case, it seems as though Chelsea are now in which a great chance of hiring him when many could have predicted a return to Spurs as being far more likely.

Spurs Could Find Carrick 2.0 In £2.1k-p/w Ace

The Antonio Conte regime at Tottenham Hotspur was brought to an end last month, with chairman Daniel Levy taking the decision to part ways with the experienced Italian with just a matter of weeks left to run until the end of the season, following a turbulent few months at N17.

Aside from the obvious frustration over results – including tame exits in the FA Cup and Champions League – a further factor in the 53-year-old's dismissal may well have been his inability to hand chances to the club's young talent, with the Daily Mail having reported that the Lilywhites' youth staff had become 'disillusioned' due to the lack of a clear pathway into the first-team.

That bewilderment with regard to Conte's unwillingness to promote from within the club undoubtedly stems from the fact there are a number of exciting gems just waiting for a chance to shine, including clinical marksman, Jamie Donley and fellow teenager, Jaden Williams.

Aside from that notable duo, another youngster who could also be a potential star of the future is 21-year-old, Jamie Bowden, with the midfielder said to be "rated highly" by the north London outfit, according to journalist Adam Millington.

Who is Tottenham's Jamie Bowden?

One of the more 'senior' figures in the academy ranks, there will come a point at which young Bowden may well have missed the boat with regard to earning a regular place in the first-team set-up, having notably endured a campaign hampered by an ankle injury so far this season.

That being said, however, the former Republic of Ireland youth international is clearly well-regarded by those at the club having even been named on the bench for the Premier League clash with Newcastle United just over a year ago, having also scored once and provided five assists in the first half of last season on loan at then-League Two outfit Oldham Athletic.

Club insider John Wenham is among those who have a particular fondness for the midfielder's talents, with the respected source having even likened the Middlesex-born gem to ex-Spurs star Michael Carrick, while also revealing how much the playmaker was admired by former boss, Mauricio Pochettino:

"He’s a deep-lying playmaker. The most similar player I have seen to him in recent years is Michael Carrick. He sits right in that holding midfield role and has a brilliant eye for a pass. Poch loved him and called him up to train with the first team a few times."

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

That likeness to Carrick bodes well for the impact that Bowden could potentially make for Tottenham in the years to come, with the current Middlesbrough boss having previously racked up 75 appearances for the club after signing from rivals West Ham United in the summer of 2004.

Like the emerging gem, Carrick was a truly gifted operator in a deep-lying role in front of the back four, having been lauded as a "complete" player by Spain legend, Xavi Hernandez, while Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola also previously said of his talents: "He’s one of the best holding midfielders I’ve ever seen in my life, by far."

That comparison between the pair can also be made by the fact that while neither man is prolific, they both also possess the knack for the spectacular, with the former Manchester United man memorably scoring a stunner for the Red Devils against Roma back in 2007, while the current Tottenham ace produced a "world-class" finish for Oldham against Exeter City last season, as per podcaster Chris Cowlin.

To think that Spurs could possibly have a natural successor to the now-retired maestro in the form of Bowden is a truly exciting prospect, with the hope being that the £2.1k-per-week sensation can overcome his previous "bad injuries" – as per Wenham – and earn a chance to shine at senior level.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka Free To Leave Man Utd

Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is free to leave the club this summer, according to a key new update regarding his future.

Is Wan-Bissaka impressing this season?

The Englishman has found himself in and out of United's team this season, admittedly playing more recently, but rarely feeling like a key man. In total, he has made just 12 Premier League appearances in total, nine of which have been starts, and Diogo Dalot has been seen as the stronger option, when fit.

In fairness to Wan-Bissaka, his performances recently have been solid on the whole, with the 25-year-old playing his part in his side's top-four push, averaging 1.9 tackles per game in the league overall. With his current United expiring at the end of next season, however, the club have a big decision to make this summer, knowing that this will be the last chance for them to earn good money for him.

For that reason, an Old Trafford exit feels increasingly likely, especially after a new update that has emerged.

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Is right-back off in the summer?

According to Football Insider, Erik ten Hag has informed Wan-Bissaka that he is "free to leave this summer", not seeing him as part of United's future. It is claimed that he "came close to leaving Old Trafford in January", but instead stayed put, in order to alleviate injury problems within the squad.

Ten Hag sees Dalot as the superior option moving forward, though, and he is happy to see the former Crystal Palace man move on to pastures new. The Reds have been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong and he could be viewed as a sizeable upgrade on Wan-Bissaka.

In fairness to the United defender, he is someone whose attitude is never called into equation and he always gives his all, but he isn't at the required level to be a long-term success at Old Trafford. The defensive side of his game is often strong – he has averaged two clearances per match in the league in 2022/23 – but he lacks the attacking quality needed in the modern full-back, not scoring or assisting once in the division this season.

Moving him on this summer and receiving a fee for him is the most logical option, rather than losing him for free next year, and he could still carve a good career for himself at a lower-ranked team, having once been hailed as "the best one-on-one defender for a full-back in the world" by Jamie Carragher.

Celtic Losing £180-p/w Gem A Bigger Blow Than Karamoko

The Ange Postecoglou reign at Celtic has seen a number of impressive talents arrive at Parkhead in recent times, with the likes of Reo Hatate, Matt O'Riley and Kyogo Furuhashi having all proven integral to the Greek-Aussie's Hoops revolution.

There have also, however, been a handful of notable outgoings amid the plethora of new additions in Glasgow, with the Old Firm outfit having potentially let a few diamonds slip from their grasp.

On the face of it, it had appeared something of a blow to see young Karamoko Dembele leave the Bhoys last summer, although the 20-year-old has since endured a difficult time of it at Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois, having failed to score or register a single assist in 16 outings in France this season.

Once hailed as a "potential star" – as per The Scottish Sun – amid interest in his services from Manchester City back in 2016, the diminutive winger had come to wider attention after turning out for the Scottish Premiership side's U20's at the age of just 13.

As is so often the case, that early hype – which also saw the London-born speedster described as a "big talent" by Brendan Rodgers – was perhaps more of a burden than a blessing, with the 5 foot 7 ace going on to make just ten first-team appearances for the club in total.

With the forward making way at the end of last season after a campaign disrupted by injury and a slide down the pecking order, there was largely a sense of what might have been among those at Celtic Park, rather than obvious anger at letting the once-promising gem move on to pastures new.

Karamoko Dembele in action for Celtic

The same may not be said, however, about another academy graduate, Ben Doak, with the 17-year-old already making a fine impression following his move to Premier League side, Liverpool, last year.

How is Ben Doak getting on at Liverpool?

While Dembele is currently failing to make his mark in France, Doak has quickly caught the attention of Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, having already notched up five first-team appearances in his new home despite his youth.

The Scotland U21 international – who previously made two senior outings for the Bhoys – has been described as a "huge talent" by journalist Barry Anderson, who also described him as a player who can leave defenders "for dead", such is his "fearless" nature down the flank.

Having opted to move on from Celtic last year – after being tempted by the "top-level" facilities and "standards" on Merseyside – the teenager already has 11 goals and eight assists to his name at youth level this season, including eight goal involvements in just eight UEFA Youth League games.

Ben Doak in action for Celtic

Such form has even seen the fleet-footed dynamo lauded as an "exciting prospect" by Celtic and Liverpool icon, Kenny Dalglish, while the £180-per-week gem was also hailed as a "natural force" by Klopp after featuring against AC Milan in a friendly back in December.

For the "explosive winger" – as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig – to have already caught the attention of the German coach is a further indication of his talent, with it looking as if the sky is the limit for the Dalry native.

While there will be a sense of pride among those at Paradise to see one of their former assets blossoming elsewhere, it will remain a blow that Postecoglou and co weren't able to have Doak in the first-team picture over an extended period of time.

Arsenal Captivated By £53.5m "Rolls-Royce"

Arsenal are captivated by Sporting CP's Manuel Ugarte, and they have recently conducted a scouting mission to run the rule over the midfielder, according to recent reports from Portugal.

What's the latest Arsenal transfer news?

The Gunners are looking to strengthen in attacking areas this summer, and they are said to be crazy about signing Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze, who could be brought in to provide competition to Bukayo Saka at right-wing.

Mikel Arteta could look at bringing in a number of options to strengthen the spine of the team, and he is also believed to be looking at Real Sociedad centre-back Robin Le Normand, as well as central-midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

Declan Rice also remains a target for the north London outfit, and the West Ham United captain would be "very interested in joining Arsenal", according to journalist Dean Jones, with talks set to take place in the summer window.

According to a report from O Jogo (via Sport Witness), Ugarte may also now be a target for the Gunners in the summer, with the club recently sending officials to watch the midfielder during Sporting's clash with Juventus.

The Portuguese club are planning to sell the 22-year-old for as much as possible in the upcoming window, with his release clause currently set at €60m (£53.5m), and it is "practically inevitable" he departs.

Arteta liked the maestro's performance in Arsenal's Europa League clash with Sporting last month, and the club have been captivated by his performances ever since.

Should Arsenal sign Manuel Ugarte?

The report details that Arteta is on the lookout for a "complete midfielder" this summer, but there are some doubts about whether the Uruguayan offers enough in an attacking sense.

The Montivideo-born ace has registered zero goals and just one assist in 42 appearances for Sporting so far this season, having mainly been utilised in a deep role, as he particularly specialises in the defensive side of the game.

Manuel Ugarte

Over the past year, the "Rolls-Royce of a midfielder" ranks in the 99th percentile for tackles per 90, and in the 97th for interceptions, meaning he more than makes up for his lack of threat going forward with his defensive acumen.

However, Rice also flourishes in those aspects of the game, while he is also more of a threat going forward, and has proven Premier League experience, therefore the England international should remain Arsenal's priority target in the summer window.

Aston Villa Must Unleash £17m Dynamo Vs Fulham

Aston Villa failed to win their sixth Premier League match in a row after slipping to a 1-1 draw against Brentford last weekend, however, coming back to steal a point showcases the improved mentality throughout Unai Emery’s side recently.

Douglas Luiz slotted home an equaliser with just a few minutes remaining, and the point further enhances Villa’s European ambitions as they sit just two points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fifth spot.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Villa Park side as they prepare to face Fulham this evening and with the Cottagers enjoying a successful season of their own, it could prove to be an exciting clash.

Emery won’t be making many changes to his team ahead of the match as Emiliano Martinez should be available after being substituted during the draw against Brentford due to illness.

Following a relatively quiet afternoon in front of goal, the Spaniard could mix things up slightly by unleashing winger Bertrand Traore against Fulham in the hopes he can continue his recent form.

Will Bertrand Traore start against Fulham?

The winger was brought back to the club by Emery in January following a six-month loan spell at Turkish side Basaksehir FK, where he scored three times, as some added cover to the wide positions.

Since returning, he has played a part in five matches and has scored twice, including a vital late winner against Leicester City at the start of April which continued their momentum.

His 12-minute cameo against the Foxes meant he started the following encounter with Nottingham Forest, and he didn’t disappoint, receiving a 7.1 rating via Sofascore for his efforts.

The 27-year-old demonstrated his talents during his first start for the club since leaving Turkey as he took three shots, won half of his ground duels, completed 91% of his passes and was fouled twice, clearly giving opposition defenders a tough time on the wing.

bertrand-traore-aston-villa-transfer-nico-williams

Although Emery perhaps sees the £17m winger as a better option to have come on from the bench and utilise his skills on tired opponents than unleashing him from the start, his display against Forest proves that he can get involved from the very first whistle.

He is still capable of producing moments of magic, with the winner against the Foxes drawing massive praise from journalist Matt Maher, who said: "You can't help but like a player like Bertrand Traore. All the times he frustrates, are forgiven when he produces something as ridiculously brilliant as that winner. Nonchalance personified."

Will Traore be the most important player for Villa during this impressive run? No, but he pops up from nowhere and produces important moments. This is why Emery has to unleash him this evening.

64 y/o Named As New Chelsea Manager Target

Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Chelsea are considering a possible move to hire Luciano Spalletti as the club's next manager.

What are the latest Chelsea manager rumours?

The Blues are currently on the hunt for a new head coach but it remains unclear who has been their number one target.

At the moment, Mauricio Pochettino looks to be the potential favourite but that's only after the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have fallen out of the race.

Former PSG and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino

However, it seems as though Napoli boss Spalletti is going to be yet another name considered for the role by Todd Boehly and co.

Indeed, while speaking in a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs outlined the club's interest in the 64-year-old but explained that it might not be an easy deal to complete.

In full, he said: "Luciano Spalletti is another name that has been spoken about. But at the moment, he's fully focused on Napoli and winning the Scudetto, and is not necessarily attainable, therefore, to approach or speak to at this point. So Chelsea do want to move in the coming weeks to get that name.

"Because even if that name starts next season, they still want to lock down the name, which helps stabilise the club. And then there's a name that they can take in the coming weeks into the transfer market ahead of the window opening which is important as well. But this has always been about Chelsea not rushing."

Why would Chelsea want Luciano Spalletti?

It's no shock that Spalletti would be considered by the Premier League side. In fact, after the season he's had with Napoli, he may well be a target for a number of top teams across Europe.

After all, the coach has led his side to a Champions League quarter-final and is on the verge of bringing the first Scudetto to Naples since the 1989-1990 season during the legendary days of Diego Maradona.

With that title race not quite wrapped up just yet though, it's understandable Spalletti's focus remains on Napoli and so if Chelsea want to make an appointment soon, they may struggle to get the Italian on board.

However, as Jacobs points out, the club's managerial search has been about taking their time and so they may opt to be patient and persevere with Frank Lampard as interim while waiting until the summer.

At which stage, perhaps with the Serie A title under his belt, Spalletti could be a more realistic target.
