Newcastle fans targeting top ten after Diame comments

Newcastle midfielder Mo Diame believes the Magpies should be targeting a top ten finish, and fans are in complete agreement with the Senegal international.

A few weeks ago you’d have been laughed out of the room for suggesting Newcastle could land in the top ten this season, but after three consecutive home wins the Magpies can finally start looking up instead of down.

Rafa Benitez’s side have kept clean sheets in all three of the home wins that have all but ensured their survival, grinding out hard fought results against Manchester United and Huddersfield either side of a total demolition of Southampton.

Diame, who has enjoyed a revival of form himself in the past few months, thinks the club should be targeting bigger and better things next season.

“If you finish 17th or 16th then the target next season will simply be to stay up again next time. What we want to do is finish close to the top 10 and maybe we can have a more exciting target next season,” the 30 year-old said.

“This club is massive. The fans are among the best in Europe and we sell 50,000 tickets every home game.

“The target should be much more than just staying up every year.”

Diame has formed a formidable partnership in central midfield alongside Jonjo Shelvey, and a win against Leicester on Saturday could lift Benitez’s men into 10th.

West Brom eye swoop for Allardyce, Everton fans react

Sam Allardyce has been in charge of a fair share of clubs throughout his football management career.

In November last year, the experienced coach took over at Everton as permanent successor to Ronald Koeman, but there is already speculation that the 63-year-old might be moving on swiftly.

A recent report in The Mirror claimed that West Bromwich Albion have placed Allardyce high on their list of potential candidates to replace Alan Pardew.

However, according to the publication, the Baggies will be unsuccessful in their attempts to recruit him as he has no intention of coaching in the Championship.

West Brom are destined for the second tier as they are 10 points from safety with five games left to play before the end of the season.

A large number of Everton fans have grown impatient with Allardyce, despite the fact that he has helped retain the club’s top-flight status.

After reports emerged of the Baggies’ rumoured interest, the supporters took to Reddit to give their thoughts on the speculation.

Spurs fans can’t decide on Lloris after another blunder

Tottenham fans have been discussing the form of club captain Hugo Lloris, after the Frenchman made another error in Saturday’s win at Stoke.

Hugo Lloris made his 200th Premier League appearance for Tottenham this weekend, but the fan favourite has come under some criticism recently for his less than confident performances.

The 31 year-old moved to North London from Lyon in 2012, and has been an absolute brick wall since making the goalkeeper spot his own, yet his performances just seem to have dropped a level or two in the last 18 months.

The Stoke goal on Saturday was more bad luck than it was bad goalkeeping, as Lloris’s clearance ricocheted off Mame Biram Diouf and landed right in front of the Senegalese striker to equalise.

Of course, Spurs went on to win the match courtesy of Christian Eriksen (or not if you believe Harry Kane), but nonetheless fans are growing increasingly concerned about the form of Lloris.

The French stopper now has five errors leading to goals this season, which is the second most in the league behind Petr Cech’s six.

Soares, Tadic named in ‘Worst Team of the Year’, Southampton fans react

Given that Southampton are staring down at the Championship with just five Premier League games left to play, it is safe to say that there are a handful of players who have not been at their best level.

According to WhoScored, Dusan Tadic and Cedric Soares are the main culprits as both made the website’s ‘Worst Rated Team of the Season So Far’.

Soares, who won the European Championship with Portugal in 2016, has started 27 Premier League matches this season, creating two assists.

As for Tadic, the midfielder has played in all but two of the club’s top-flight fixtures, scoring four goals and producing three assists.

During Mauricio Pellegrino’s reign, which lasted just nine months, the team were often criticised for their negative approach and lacklustre attack.

In fact, before the manager’s sacking on March 12, the team had scored just 29 goals in the Premier League.

Mark Hughes has since taken over, but the Saints have lost all three of their top-flight matches under his stewardship, leaving the club five points from safety with as many games left to play.

The coastal club have a big week as they take on Leicester City this evening and then Chelsea in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

West Ham fans can’t believe incredible transfer links

Long time West Ham target William Carvalho is reportedly for sale this summer, but it doesn’t seem like West Ham fans are overly confident of a deal.

According to reports in Portugal, Sporting CP are ready to sell William Carvalho for €40m this summer, along with goalkeeper Rui Patricio for a further €15m.

West Ham are known to be long time admirers of Carvalho, who impressed for Portugal at the European Championships in 2016.

The towering defensive midfielder and his goalkeeper are both set to be in the shop window this summer, and West Ham could certainly benefit from investing heavily in the spine of their team.

Adrian and Joe Hart have both shown why they can’t be trusted this season, and the Hammers are seriously short of quality options in midfield too.

Carvalho and Patricio would drastically improve the Hammers, but fans aren’t particularly confident of a deal given their recent transfer business.

Fans have grown tired of their owners taking the cheapest possible option in the transfer market, and let’s just say they can’t see the owners spending €55m (£48m) on two top class players.

Newcastle fans urge club to meet huge Kenedy asking price

Newcastle fans are all saying the same thing about the latest report on Kenedy, pleading with the club to sign the star Brazilian.

According to a report in Wednesday’s Daily Mail (via Chronicle Live), Chelsea are willing to part ways with the 22 year-old, but only for more than £20million.

Kenedy has been a big hit on Tyneside since his January loan move, and fans are so desperate to keep him they were even happy to simply extend the loan for another year.

The Brazilian reportedly loves Newcastle, and would be happy to stay if the two clubs can agree terms.

Since his January move up north, the 20 year-old has grabbed two goals and two assists, but it’s his tireless work rate and passion for the shirt that has really endeared him to the fans on Tyneside.

Add in the Brazilian’s silky skill and fantastic delivery into the box, something which has been sorely lacking for the Magpies in the past, and it’s no surprise fans are practically begging the club to pull the trigger.

With an asking price of more than £20m, things could be difficult for Newcastle, especially with Liverpool sniffing around.

While some fans are already assuming Mike Ashley won’t splash the cash, others are just hoping for the best. Some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…

Man United fans unhappy with Mourinho comments

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho paid tribute to Ashley Young in an interview that was published on the club’s official website on Wednesday afternoon.

Indeed, Mourinho was keen to hail Young’s form during the 2017-18 campaign, and claimed that he wanted to see the England international make 50 appearances for the club next season.

United have been linked with a new left-back for some time, but Mourinho’s comments appear to suggest that Young will again be first choice in that position next season.

And to suggest that the United manager’s comments have not gone down well with the supporters would be a slight understatement.

[ad_pod ]

Some of the comments were pretty harsh when considering that Young has been impressive for long spells of this season, but a lot of United fans want a change, and have not welcomed Mourinho’s words on the 32-year-old.

Young is again expected to be in the team that faces West Ham United on Thursday night, with United looking to return to winning ways following defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

West Ham eye summer deal for Hegazi

According to The Sun, West Ham United are considering a move for West Bromwich Albion centre-back Ahmed Hegazi in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Hegazi joined West Brom on loan from Al Ahly last summer before completing a permanent transfer to the Baggies during the January transfer window.

The centre-back’s future at the Hawthorns has been called into question, however, following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

According to The Sun, West Ham are closely monitoring proceedings as they eye a move for the defender, who will reportedly be available for £2.5m this summer due to a relegation release clause in the Egyptian’s contract.

That said, Leicester City are also believed to be interested in signing Hegazi, with the Foxes prepared to battle West Ham during this summer’s transfer window.

Should West Ham fight to sign him?

West Brom had a difficult 2017-18 campaign, but there is no question that Hegazi was one of the team’s most consistent performers.

[ad_pod ]

Indeed, he appeared in all 38 of West Brom’s Premier League matches last term – scoring twice and impressing with the ease that he settled into the English game.

For £2.5m, the deal is an absolute no-brainer. Hegazi will be a better player for his experience over the last 12 months, and he showed throughout the season that he is more than capable of operating at this level of football.

Hegazi will travel with Egypt to the 2018 World Cup this summer, and the centre-back will surely be keen to have his future tied up before then.

The chance to move to the English capital would surely appeal to the 27-year-old, and West Ham, whose supporters have been reacting to the rumours surrounding Manuel Pellegrini, should fight hard to beat Leicester to his signature.

Leeds fans line up Zidane to replace Heckingbottom

Leeds fans were delighted about Paul Heckingbottom’s departure on Friday, and they’ve got a pretty optimistic target lined up to replace him.

Paul Heckingbottom officially left Leeds this week, after just four wins since taking over from Thomas Christiansen in February.

The ex-Barnsley man struggled to imprint his desired style of play on the side, and the club have decide he cannot take them to the promised land of Premier League football.

While there is no concrete news about his replacement, ex-Lille manager Marcelo Bielsa is the front-runner to take over.

[ad_pod ]

Leeds fans have come up with a much more ambitious target though – departing Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

The three-time Champions League winner left Real Madrid this week, and a shock swoop for the Frenchman would certainly ruffle a few feathers in the Championship.

The suggestions are of course tongue in cheek, but there are more than a couple of fans calling for the Madrid legend to take over, in what would surely be the most bizarre thing to happen at Leeds since… they went to Myanmar last month.

Revealed: Majority of Liverpool fans want Bailey added to list of transfer targets

Liverpool have had a decent transfer window so far, and could get even better in the coming days.

Jurgen Klopp surprised everyone by recruiting midfielder Fabinho from Monaco a matter of weeks ago.

The club swiftly moved on from the disappointment of losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid by addressing areas of the pitch that needed improvement.

Goalkeepers have been a regular feature in the gossip columns whenever Liverpool are mentioned, and it appears that the Merseyside outfit are keen to strengthen an already-blistering attack.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will take some shifting from the team, but the Reds could do with bolstering the positions in the event of injuries or some much-needed rest for the trio.

With that in mind, one option who Liverpool could consider is Leon Bailey, who currently plies his trade at Bayer Leverkusen.

According to Calcio Insider, the Reds are keeping tabs on the 20-year-old, who scored 12 goals and created six assists for the Germany outfit last season.

We asked you if Bailey would be a decent addition to the team, and the overwhelming majority of fans are in favour of a swoop.
