Driblando preconceitos!

CONSTANTE LUTA CONTRA O PRECONCEITO

O dirigente do Alligaytors relembrou e lamentou o caso.

O caso do Richarlyson é claro aqui no país.

South Africa opening batsman Dean Elgar scored 98 on his home debut for Surrey as Gloucestershire made them work hard to reach 279 for 5 on the first day of their LV=County Championship match at the Kia Oval.Elgar stepped up the pace in a third-wicket partnership of 131 in 52 overs with Zafar Ansari, who had batted almost four hours for 64 when he was lbw to Jack Taylor in the last over before tea.Taylor, giving his offspin plenty of air, also accounted for Elgar, who was trying to hit him over the top for a third six to go with his 10 fours when he sliced horribly to backward point where Michael Klinger swooped to take the catch. Elgar had faced 203 balls.Ansari had earlier shared an opening stand of 42 with Rory Burns, playing his first game since he was knocked unconscious in a horrific collision with his Australian team-mate Moises Henriques in a NatWest Blast game at Arundel a fortnight ago. Burns needed stitches in cuts near his left eye while Henriques broke his jaw in three places.Burns, who cannot remember anything about the collision, began by clipping the first ball of the match confidently for three and was looking good on 21 when Gloucestershire broke through with two wickets in six balls. Burns was caught behind driving at Liam Norwell for 21 and Arun Harinath edged Craig Miles to first slip.Ansari, stood firm, however, and Elgar, who has replaced Kumar Sangakkara as Surrey’s overseas player while he is away playing for Sri Lanka, soon looked at ease in his new surroundings. He gave Ansari a 21-run and 16-over start but was first to his fifty off 105 balls with six fours and a six. Ansari, dropped at third slip off Norwell on 22, needed 187 balls to reach fifty with only four fours but was just becoming more expansive with two more boundaries when he fell to Taylor. It was a long day in the field for Gloucestershire, who, like Surrey, had been in T20 Blast action the night before, but they never lost their discipline and were further rewarded when Norwell bowled Jason Roy for 14. Ben Foakes, who finished unbeaten on 57, and Gary Wilson saw out the day with a stand of 45.

Leach drags Worcs into quarter-finals

Worcestershire sealed a place in the quarter-finals of the NatWest T20 Blast when they overcame a sluggish pitch and a determined Derbyshire side by four wickets

Worcestershire sealed a place in the quarter-finals of the NatWest T20 Blast when they overcame a sluggish pitch and a determined Derbyshire side to win the North Group match at Derby by four wickets.Derbyshire skipper Wes Durston hit 32 and Billy Godleman 33 in a total of 149 for 8 with Saeed Ajmal taking 2 for 21 in four overs. Despite Richard Oliver’s 45 from 38 balls, Worcestershire also found it hard to get the ball away against tight bowling with Alex Hughes taking 2 for 21. But Joe Leach hit an unbeaten 18 from 12 balls to secure victory and condemn Derbyshire to finishing bottom of the group.Derbyshire wanted to end on a high but were soon in trouble against disciplined bowling which was rewarded with three wickets in the Powerplay. Leach found some extra bounce to have Hamish Rutherford caught at slip in the second over and although Chesney Hughes twice dispatched him to the midwicket boundary, he was bowled making room off the last ball.Shiv Thakor carved Ed Barnard low to point in the fifth over and again it was Durston, the Falcons leading run-scorer in the T20, who led the fightback by sweeping Brett D’Oliveira’s first ball over square leg for six and pulling the legspinner wide of long-on for four.Insights

In matches as tight as these on pitches as sluggish as these, know-how is so important. Worcestershire are flying high, now qualified for the quarter-finals with this win, while Derbyshire are consigned to the bottom of the North Group. This match was well balanced for much of its course and with 45 required from five overs it could easily have gone either way, but Worcestershire know how to win and Derbyshire do not. Leach’s 12-ball 18 again demonstrated the value of intensity in T20 cricket – it was only a 14 minute innings but he earned his money in a tight, pressurised situation.

But when he tried to launch Ajmal into the pavilion, he failed to clear long-on where Barnard took a well-judged catch to end a stand of 47 from 38 balls with Godleman, who swung Daryl Mitchell high over midwicket for two sixes to bring up the 100.But he sliced the next ball to point and when Wayne Madsen skied a drive at Ajmal to deep mid-off in the 15th over, Derbyshire were 102 for 6 before Alex Hughes and Tom Knight added 39 from 27 balls to get the total past 140.With the ball not coming on to the bat, Derbyshire were still in the game if they could take early wickets and Thakor struck in the fifth over when Mitchell pulled him to deep midwicket. Tom Kohler-Cadmore cut Alex Hughes to backward point in the ninth over as a combination of spin and seam denied Worcestershire a boundary for 21 balls and 85 from the last 10 overs was far from straightforward.Richard Oliver pulled Nathan Rimmington for his seventh four but then skied a drive to long-on off the last ball of the 12th over and the pressure was starting to tell when D’Oliveira miscued Alex Hughes to point.Worcestershire needed a big over and Munro delivered by taking 16, including a six over midwicket, from the 14th bowled by Durston but he then chipped Greg Cork to deep square leg in the next over. With 45 needed from the last five overs, Whiteley drove Thakor over long off for six and then swung Rimmington over long-on but was then yorked going for another maximum although four byes off the last ball reduced the target to 22 from 18 balls. Leach drove a Rimmington no-ball for four from an over which cost 10 and Worcestershire got home with three balls to spare.

Netherlands' chance to bring down another Full Member

In the 2014 World T20, Netherlands chased down 190 in 13.5 overs in one of the games of the tournament, before stunning England. They have also beaten Bangladesh in T20Is previously

Big PictureTwo years ago, the Netherlands needed to chase 190 runs in 14.2 overs against Ireland to qualify to the main draw of the World T20. Nobody gave them a chance during the ten-minute innings break before they took about an hour or so to prove everyone wrong. They did it in 13.5 overs.Later in the tournament, they went on to beat England by 45 runs. If they are looking for inspiration this time round, they can look back to those two games. And that’s exactly their problem ahead of the clash against the in-form Bangladesh side. That win over England in Chittagong was also their last T20I against a Full Member.Bangladesh will be a formidable opponent simply because of recent form. They are Asia Cup runners-up from three days ago, having beaten Pakistan and Sri Lanka in heady battles before going down to India in the final. Mashrafe Mortaza’s side has become a threat to nearly every team that has come their way since the end of 2014, with the likes of Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman, Al-Amin Hossain and Taskin Ahmed becoming match-winners.Mashrafe would want the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim to get back into batting form while Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar have shown they are hitting it off the middle of the bat.Netherlands meanwhile have the likes of Stephan Myburgh, the Cooper brothers and a steady bowling attack, led by captain Peter Borren, to thwart Bangladesh who are slightly disadvantaged by arriving later than the Dutch in Dharamsala. Netherlands also have the memory of previously beating Bangladesh in T20I cricket to buoy them.Form guideBangladesh LWWWL (last five completed matches, most recent first)
Netherlands LWWWWWatch out forTaskin Ahmed bowled superbly in the Asia Cup final, and his late wicket and five-run over in the dying stages gave Bangladesh hope until MS Dhoni clattered Al-Amin Hossain for big sixes. Taskin has shown rare consistency at high pace, something his side has lacked for a long time.Tom Cooper is back in orange as a last-minute addition, and is in the Netherlands squad for the first time since the 2014 World T20 where he finished as second highest run-getter. His experience would surely be crucial, especially against a Bangladesh bowling attack that has started well recently.Team newsWhether Mustafizur Rahman will recovery from a side strain in time for the game is Bangladesh’s only concern, though they would also like to have a look at the Dharamsala pitch to decide if they want to go with a four-man pace attack.Bangladesh (probable) 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Soumya Sarkar, 3 Sabbir Rahman, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5 Shakib Al Hasan, 6 Mahmudullah, 7 Nasir Hossain, 8 Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), 9 Al-Amin Hossain, 10 Arafat Sunny/Mustafizur Rahman, 11 Taskin AhmedVivian Kingma and Pieter Seelaar could miss out, the latter to Roelof van der Merwe’s T20 experience. Much of the same is expected on Wednesday. There will be dew in the evening. The pitch looks very dry, almost like cement, with a bit of grass in the middle that should not affect things much. Expect good carry and bounce, which should suit both teams’ pace bowlers.Stats and trivia Bangladesh and Netherlands last faced in July 2012 when they drew a T20 series 1-1 Stephan Myburgh has the highest strike-rate (123.25) against Full Members among the four Dutch batsmen to have scored 100-plus T20I runsQuotes”We took the flight [from Dhaka] on Monday morning and reached at 6 pm in the evening. We didn’t have much time to practice and adjust, but I guess we will take much confidence from the Asia Cup.”

Watson happy for new home comforts on RCB debut

Shane Watson played his first game for Royal Challengers Bangalore Tuesday night and enjoyed something he hadn’t had for a couple of IPL seasons: a home crowd

Alagappan Muthu in Bangalore13-Apr-2016Shane Watson played his first game for Royal Challengers Bangalore Tuesday night – a 45-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad – and enjoyed something he hadn’t had for a couple of IPL seasons: a home crowd. His old team, Rajasthan Royals, had to shift their home games from Jaipur to Ahmedabad in 2014 and 2015 due to a dispute between the Rajasthan Cricket Association and the BCCI. Watson was pleased to now have that comfort back in 2016.”More than anything, it’s a really nice feeling to have the home crowd,” Watson said. “For Rajasthan, over the last two or three years, we haven’t had a home ground. We never played in Jaipur. We had a lot of success there and the fans were incredible there. So the thing that really stood out for me the most – and even while driving to the ground – was the incredible support that RCB have and it’s a really nice feeling to be part of such a strong franchise.”The support that the franchise gets and the quality and caliber of players as well [makes it] a privilege to be involved with. And if it wasn’t going to be with Rajasthan Royals, like I have for the previous eight years, I’m very thrilled to be here at RCB.”It wasn’t the only revelation waiting for Watson at Royal Challengers. It appears he and Chris Gayle have had some time work past some well-documented differences.”We’ve had a couple of commercials together as well in the lead up to this first game and its given us a bit of down time just to be able to get to know each other a little bit better after obviously a few run-ins that we’ve had in the past.”It’s amazing how the world works. I’m seeing a different side to Chris instead of just playing against him. It’s just a really nice thing and that’s the beauty of the game of cricket and the opportunities that I’m so fortunate to have playing in different franchises and different teams around the world. You get to play against some of your arch-enemies and certain people you’ve had run-ins with throughout your time, so it’s actually a really nice thing.”

Hameed building his own Great Wall

Haseed Hameed, the 19-year-old batsman, guided Lancashire’s reply to Durham’s 411 on the second day at Chester-le-Street

The story goes that South Africa’s captain, Alan Melville, was so absorbed in his own innings during a 1947 Test match that he failed to notice one of his partners had been dismissed. “Where’s Dudley?” he asked an astonished team-mate during one of the stranger midwicket conferences in cricket history.Haseeb Hameed is 19 years old and such bizarre inattention on his part would probably merit a bollocking from one of Lancashire’s battle-tempered old pros. All the same he already shows an unnerving devotion to the art of batting and an ability to concentrate which some players ten years his senior never acquire. And Lancashire had need of Hameed’s precocious mental strength on the second afternoon of this game at the Riverside. For 263 minutes he answered the call, carefully accumulating runs with gentle certainty and what the former Lancashire coach, Peter Moores, identifies as “quietness” at the crease. Only when it seemed all but sure that he would be batting on Tuesday morning did he err, fatally missing a pull off a monstrous Scott Borthwick long hop and being bowled for 74 four overs before the close. The fact that his runs had helped his side construct a decent reply to Durham’s 411 will comfort Hameed but it will not assuage his disappointment at losing his treasured wicket. He might, though, be rather comforted by the joy of Durham’s players when they removed him.”It wasn’t nice but that’s cricket for you,” he said gamely. “Sometimes you get a jaffa and sometimes balls like that can get you out but hopefully next time I can push on and get a hundred.”Lancashire were already 21 for 2, having lost Karl Brown and Luke Procter, both caught by Ryan Pringle at third slip off James Weighell, when Hameed was joined by Alviro Petersen at just past two o’clock. Time, by the way, may be significant to everyone else on the planet but Hameed gives no indication that it matters to him. “You think you are a Time Lord, Doctor,” one can imagine him informing Gallifrey’s most famous son, “but I think can show something about time. We shall begin by playing a game of cricket. I’ll bat first….”Hameed and Petersen repaired their side’s damaged innings with a partnership of 104 in 44.3 overs. Petersen was the quicker scorer but not by the margin that those who watched Hameed’s 225-ball 62 against Hampshire might imagine. When Durham’s second string seamers, Brydon Carse and Barry McCarthy, over-pitched outside the off stump, Hameed unfurled his drive through point, thus supporting the argument that those who label him a blocker are missing the point. He already has a sophisticated ability to weigh risk against reward. His clip to square leg off a Carse half-volley to reach his fifty was an almost contemptuous dismissal of a rank bad ball.Long before that, however, Hameed had to survive a fine spell from Graham Onions, who remains one of English cricket’s most rigorous inquisitors. On several occasions just after lunch Hameed was beaten outside the off stump by Onions. Each time this happened he walked to square leg, as if assimilating what he had learned; invariably he played the previous shot again. After bowling nine overs for nine runs Paul Collingwood took Onions off and Hameed had won another small contest. It would have been interesting to see how he might have fared had Chris Rushworth’s buttock injury not kept him out of this game.As it was, Hameed and Petersen enjoyed a measure of freedom in the development of their partnership. The pair went into this game with almost identical first-class averages, albeit that Petersen has played over 200 games more. While the South African found the gaps in the field with greater facility, his partner radiated greater permanence, so it was not greatly surprising when Petersen was lbw for 61 in Onions’s second spell when trying to work the ball to leg.Hameed was joined by Croft and continued in his profound method. Time, and then time again, the bat was drawn from stumps to crease and the guard checked with a patient umpire.Evening drifted away and how the Lancashire supporters enjoyed it as they sat in the sun traps around the Riverside. So they did on the pavilion balcony, too, where the players have already nicknamed Hameed “the Great Wall of Bolton”. The batsman himself probably likes it, for it carries echoes of Rahul Dravid. For both batsmen the forward defensive seems a beautiful stroke, an exposition of character. And as Collingwood rotated his bowlers and changed the field, placing both short mid-off and short mid-on for Hameed when Onions was bowling, Durham’s skipper probably appreciated the arrival of a batsman of palpable pedigree. In the morning session Collingwood had fallen three runs short of a century which most at the Riverside, even the visiting supporters unblinded by zealotry, would have liked to see.For some English cricketers their team’s shirt is a flag of financial convenience; for others it is a demonstration of tribal loyalty, a matter of blood. It still comes as something of a shock to realise that Jack Bond played for Nottinghamshire or that Jack Hampshire had three seasons with Derbyshire. Collingwood is 40 on May 26 and he will eventually retire having been a Durham cricketer for over two decades. During those years he has worn the county’s coat of arms with nothing less than the full measure of devotion. Durham may need more than a few bob from the ECB; they will not want for heart while Collingwood is around.Nor need Lancashire supporters be anxious about at least one of their side’s opening batting positions for the next couple of summers. After that, though the future is more uncertain, because before too long, Haseeb Hameed will play for England. He has at least 15 years of next times ahead of him.
