David Warner has described sledging as “a form of the game” but he has conceded that the Australians occasionally do cross the line with their comments. Warner is not in Zimbabwe for the tri-series and was a guest on Fox Sports’ TV show on Tuesday night.
“We set a standard where we want to go out there and play aggressive and hard cricket and not cross the line,” Warner said. “There are some times you do nudge that line a fair bit and the odd occasion you might step over that, but you do have to realise that we’re out there to win. We do like to be aggressive and sledging is a form of the game when we’re out there. And it happens in all sports.”
Warner also expressed regret comments he made during Australia’s tour of South Africa in February, when he suggested AB de Villiers might use his wicketkeeping gloves to alter the condition of the ball. Warner was fined 15% of his match fee by the ICC for the comment. “Obviously with myself coming out and saying the comment about AB de Villiers probably wasn’t the smartest thing, and I regret saying that,” he said.

But they can’t expect us to be mates with them off the field if they get very personal.”If anything, dangling the threat of a withdrawal of goodwill is certain to pique Australia’s interest but de Villiers has insisted South Africa are prepared. “In the same breath, we are also here to win this series so… whatever it takes,” he said.His men have geared themselves up not with extra net sessions or hours of video analysis but with a boot camp in beastliness. In their three days off, most of South Africa’s squad headed to the Victoria Falls River Lodge – a luxury tented camp on the banks of the Zambezi River – where they were surrounded by “hippos and crocodiles” and channelled their inner Dale Steyn.The leader of the pack had been in the bush for longer because he was rested for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe and used the time to be daring. While fishing, he ended up hooking himself and if that wasn’t enough, he also jumped off the Zambezi River Bridge. Far from being concerned that he could render himself unavailable for the triangular, South Africa’s management encouraged him to get his adrenaline fix because they believe that is what he and the rest of the squad needs.”That is probably the reason he has been the No.1 bowler in the world for so long,” de Villiers said. “He has got that adventurous streak about him and he loves challenges. His kind of challenge is jumping of a bridge. That’s what he does at home in Cape Town too. He runs in the mountains there and there is always some sort of danger. And also some of the other guys, we also like adventure. We had hippos and crocodiles around us. It’s part of going to a game lodge and part of switching the mind off. We are all here very fresh.”Inevitably, there was also some focus on cricket and the elephant in the room walked in too, although not literally. “I don’t want any cricket conversation on those trips but it comes up all the time. The guys love the game and they love to talk about the game. Around the camp fire it came up a few times – how we are going to try and win this series,” de Villiers. “The lodge owner wanted to know a few things about why we haven’t won a World Cup.”If South Africa have an answer to that question, they are not saying what it is, except that they hope this time will be different. Meticulous planning sprinkled with some escapism is the recipe they are using this time and doubtless beating is Australia is part of what they see as being on the right road to success.But if the sense of bravado is not enough to let Australia know South Africa mean business, de Villiers, who has only scored 29 runs in three innings on this tour, had a personal warning for them too. “I am hitting the ball better than ever so I expect myself to make an impact in this series,” he said. “If I don’t I will be very disappointed.”

But, for a side with the Championship title within reach, this was close to a perfect day.Starting the penultimate round of games with a lead of 26 points and playing against their nearest challengers, Yorkshire claimed another three batting points and established a position of dominance in the match. It will take a miracle to deny them now.It was fitting that Adam Lyth, the 26-year-old left-hander, led the way after getting a life second ball. He has enjoyed a prolific season – he passed 1,500 first-class runs during this innings – and has played a significant role in his side’s likely triumph. Here he recorded his seventh first-class century – six of them in the Championship – of the campaign and provide another reminder of his increasingly compelling England credentials. A Lions tour place, perhaps opening accompanying Sam Robson, looks likely.Alongside Alex Lees, the latest in the production line of outstanding Yorkshire batting talent, Lyth posted 176 for Yorkshire’s first wicket. It was the pair’s fourth century stand in the Championship this season, to go with six half-century stands. Their average opening partnership of 76.05 has been a key part in the side’s success. Both look high-class players.They might not have had the chance to form this partnership at another club. At a less selfless club, or a club less committed to developing local talent, the partnership might have been spilt up at Lord’s, earlier this season, when Joe Root returned to the side. Instead the club captain, Andrew Gale, made the courageous decision to drop himself. Leadership comes in many forms and Alastair Cook might reflect on the example.If Lees, wonderfully elegant through the covers, never looked quite as comfortable against spin, Lyth looked something close to the complete player. Strong on the drive and the cut, he also manoeuvred the ball for singles expertly and helped his side concede just two maidens against 34 overs of spin.As things stand, he is one of just four Yorkshire openers to have batted through a Championship season of 20 innings or more and averaged in excess of 70. Geoff Boycott did it twice, Herbert Sutcliffe did it three times and Sir Len Hutton did it once. To be in such distinguished company speaks volumes for Lyth’s class.”I’ve no doubt he can do well in Test cricket,” his coach, Jason Gillespie said afterwards. “He knows his game really well and can score all round the wicket. He and Lees have been fantastic this season.”Gale didn’t want to split them up. It was selfless leadership to sacrifice his own place in the side and was a massive boost for them to be backed like that by their captain.”They established a strong platform for us today. There is a long way to go, but we are really pleased with our day’s work.”But Nottinghamshire will rue some missed opportunities. Not only was Lyth dropped before he had scored – the normally reliable Chris Read putting down a routine outside edge from the second delivery of the day – but Lees was missed twice by Riki Wessels at short-leg off Gary Keedy. The first time he had 30 and the second time 45.Just as importantly, Nottinghamshire may reflect that they bowled too full for the first half of the day. On an easy-paced wicket with just a tinge of green, Lyth and Lees were presented with a succession of driveable deliveries and accumulated 114 runs in boundaries between them. Missing Andrew Carter and Andre Admas to injury and deciding to omit Ajmal Shahzad, the attack lacked a bit of potency.They might have included Sam Wood. The 21-year-old has only taken three first-class wickets but looks one of the more promising young offspinners in the land and could have proven dangerous against a top-three full of left-handers. At another club, he would have been preferred to the 39-year-old Keedy. But backing their own young talent is not exactly the Nottinghamshire way.To be fair, Keedy bowled pretty nicely. He eventually saw Wessels cling on to an outstanding diving effort at short-leg to end Lees’ innings and then deceived Lyth in the flight and was rewarded with a caught and bowled. Root, captain in place of the suspended Gale, was adjudged, perhaps unfortunately, leg before to the hard-working but not hugely accurate Harry Gurney and Jonny Bairstow was brilliantly caught in the gully, a victim of the second new ball and Luke Fletcher’s typically probing display.But Gary Ballance remains. With that solid defence and unflappable temperament that is going to become so wearingly familiar to bowlers around the world, he picked off anything loose and consolidated Yorkshire’s strong position. With Nottinghamshire only taking one bonus point throughout the day, the title is heading inexorably towards Yorkshire.

Vanderlei Luxemburgo é querido por vários clubes rivais. Atual treinador do Vasco, viralizou na internet esta semana, uma preleção que Luxa fez antes da partida contra o Palmeiras, no último sábado. Ele levantou a moral da equipe, que saiu da zona de rebaixamento e vem se recuperando no Brasileirão. Está caminhando para ser um dos técnicos reconhecidos no clube.

Já em São Paulo, Luxa tem o carinho de três rivais: Palmeiras, Corinthians e Santos. No Verdão, treinou a ótima equipe da Era Parmalat. Foi tetra campeão paulista e bi brasileiro. No Timão, ganhou o Brasileiro de 2001 e o Rio- São Paulo de 1998. Por fim, no Peixe, foi bicampeão paulista e campeão brasileiro em 2004, com Diego e Robinho.

Donizete Pantera

O atacante Donizete Pantera é ídolo do Botafogo e do Vasco. No Glorioso, foi campeão carioca em 90 e um dos principais jogadores da equipe na conquista do Brasileiro de 95. Chegou ao Vasco em 98 e conquistou diversos títulos importantes, entre eles a Libertadores e o Carioca de 98 e o Rio-São Paulo de 99, sendo peça importante nas conquistas.

Serginho Chulapa

O atacante Serginho Chulapa é reconhecido até hoje, tanto entre torcedores do São Paulo, quanto do Santos. No Tricolor, atuou na década de 70, e é simplesmente o maior artilheiro da história do clube, com 242 gols.Nesse período, conquistou o Campeonato Paulista de 75, 80 e 81 e o Campeonato Brasileiro de 77.

No Peixe, conquistou a artilharia do Campeonato Brasileiro e a artilharia e o gol do título no Campeonato Paulista de 84 contra o seu maior rival, o Corinthians. Ao todo, incluindo outras passagens (1983–1984, 1986, 1988 e 1989–1990), marcou 104 gols com a camisa do Santos. É membro da comissão técnica do clube santista.

Gérson

O ‘canhotinha de ouro’ Gérson, marcou época com as camisas de Botafogo, Flamengo e Fluminense. No Fla, atuou entre59 e 63, vencendo o Rio-São Paulo de 61 e o Carioca de 63. Já no Glorioso, foi bicampeão carioca em 67 e 68, além de conquistar o Brasileiro de 68. No Flu, ganhou o estadual de 73, já no fim da carreira de jogador.

Romário

O baixinho Romário marcou época tanto no Vasco, quanto no Flamengo e é querido por ambas as torcidas. O primeiro clube em que ele se destacou foi o cruzmaltino. Lá, ele foi bicampeão carioca de 87 e 88, o Brasileirão de 2000 e a Copa Mercosul, também em 2000. Marcou o seu milésimo gol com a camisa do clube carioca.

Já no Fla, Romário chegou em 95, ganhando os Cariocas de 96 e 99 e a Copa Mercosul de 99. Marcou 81 gols com a camisa Rubro-Negra.

Luizão

Luizão é lembrado com carinho no Palmeiras e no São Paulo. pelo Verdão, venceu o Paulista de 96, marcando 51 gols em 92 partidas pelo clube, sendo um dos principais jogadores do clube na década de 90.

Já no Tricolor, chegou em 2005 e foi campeão paulista e da Libertadores da América. Também marcou época no Corinthians, ganhando o Mundial e o Brasileiro de 2000.

Under CLT20 guidelines, Narine may request for an official assessment from the BCCI’s suspect bowling action committee. Narine has been placed on the tournament’s ‘warning list’ but will still be able to play. However, if he is reported again while still on the warning list, he will be suspended from bowling for the remainder of the tournament.Narine claimed figures of 3 for 33 in his four-over spell during the win over Dolphins. The Knight Riders next match will be in the tournament semi-finals on October 2. He is the fourth bowler to be reported during the tournament, joining Mohammed Hafeez and Adnan Rasool of Lahore Lions and Prenelan Subrayen of Dolphins. Being reported in the CLT20 has no impact on a bowler’s participation in international cricket.Narine is currently the leading wicket-taker in this year’s CLT20 with 11 wickets in four games at an average of 7.45, also the best in the tournament. He also has the most wickets in the six-year history of the CLT20, accumulating 38 in 19 matches, eight more than Dwayne Bravo and Doug Bollinger.
