A much-changed Manchester United secured a 1-1 draw with BSC Young Boys at Old Trafford in their final Champions League encounter in Group F.

Ralf Rangnick made a full 11 changes to the side that featured from the off in the victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday, handing first starts of the season to teenagers Anthony Elanga and Amad Diallo.

And it was a fast start from the hosts, with Mason Greenwood finishing in spectacular style within the opening ten minutes following Luke Shaw’s measured cutback.

United continuously won the ball back high up the pitch at the start of proceedings as Rangnick slowly implements his Gegenpressing style, but Diallo and Juan Mata both failed to finish off promising attacking moves.

However, the Red Devils were unable to sustain their pressing game and their Swiss opposition clawed themselves back into the tie on the stroke of half-time.

Fabian Reider won the ball back following some sloppy play on the edge of United’s area before bending in an unstoppable strike, leaving Dean Henderson helpless between the sticks.

An uneventful second half saw Rangnick hand first-team debuts to Tom Heaton, Charlie Savage and Zidane Iqbal, while Shola Shoretire also made his first appearance of the campaign, but it was perhaps a more experienced head who really took his chance.

Donny van de Beek controlled proceedings in the middle of the park and put his name firmly in the hat for more consistent outings under the new regime.

As per SofaScore, the Netherlands international had a whopping 92 touches throughout the 90 minutes, won nine of his 11 duels (82%) and picked out a teammate with three of his four attempted long balls.

The 24-year-old finished the game with a passing accuracy of 84% and successfully completed both of his dribbles, yet it was defensive contribution that really caught the eye.

Van de Beek made six tackles – at least two more than any of his teammates – pulled off three interceptions, two clearances and one block, highlighting his hugely effective display at both ends of the pitch.

His part in Young Boys’ equaliser was the only blot on the former Ajax ace’s copybook, and he’ll be hoping Rangnick can look past his single error as he bids to become a regular fixture in the starting lineup.

وجه مرتضى منصور رئيس مجلس إدارة نادي الزمالك، رسالة لمحمود الخطيب نظيره في الأهلي، مشيرًا إلى أن كل لاعب رحل عن الفريق الأبيض كان بقرار من جوسفالدو فيريرا المدير الفني.

ويعقد الزمالك برئاسة مرتضى منصور مؤتمرًا صحيفًا للحديث عن العديد من الأمور المهمة الخاصة بالنادي.   

وقال مرتضى في تصريحات خلال المؤتمر الصحفي المنعقد حاليًا: “(قولوا للخطيب يرجع الـ263 مليون جنيه والساعات)، أتحدى إنه يكون أودعها لصندوق تحيا مصر، فليصدر بيانًا بهذا الأمر لكي يظهر أنه صادق، وأنا سأقول يحيا محمود الخطيب”.

وتابع: “(أنا مش شحات) والمليون دولار التي أرسلها تركي آل شيخ لنا، أدخلتها حساب النادي، والزمالك عظيم ونادي الوطنية والكرامة والكبرياء على مدار تاريخه، ومن يتكلم عنه يتكلم بكل أدب واحترام”.

وتطرق للحديث عن عقد محمد صبحي الذي عاد إلى صفوف الفريق من فاركو، قائلا: “عقده سليم ١٠٠% ، فاركو كان من المفترض أن يدفع قيمة الصفقة يوم 31 أغسطس الماضي، لكنهم لم يدفعوا”.

وأوضح:”والخطاب الذي أرسلوه للزمالك ينص على استعداد نادي فاركو لسداد المبلغ، وكنا أنهينا الصفقة بشكل رسمي وقررنا عودته، (كلام أكتر من كده هنوقف النشاط)، ومبروك على الزمالك محمد صبحي”.

وعن اللاعبين الراحلين قال: “مع احترامي لكل من رحل عن الفريق، ولكن جوسفالدو فيريرا هو من قرر رحيل عمر السعيد وأيمن حفني وحازم إمام وإسلام جابر”.

وأختتم: “أيضًا فيريرا هو من قرر رحيل مروان حمدي، ولا أستطيع فرض رأيي على المدرب وفرض اسم معين عليه”.

أعلن نادي الزمالك، ضم نبيل عماد دونجا لاعب بيراميدز، رسميًا، خلال فترة الانتقالات الصيفية الحالية.

ويواصل الزمالك تدعيم صفوفه، استعدادًا للموسم الجديد، والمنافسة على البطولات محليًا وإفريقيًا.

New Zealand batsmen Neil Broom and Aaron Redmond have admitted to breaking a team curfew in Chennai while on tour with the A team in August, which subsequently led to them being detained by the police. New Zealand Cricket said it chose not to go public with the incident and decided to deal with the matter internally.The players, who were participating in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, breached security protocol when they stepped out of their team hotel and headed to an ATM. In an act of benevolence, they tried distributing money to the poor living in the streets, before which a crowd started to gather.According to the , the crowd got unruly and a riot started to develop. The police intervened, detained the pair at the police station and arranged for a taxi to take them back to the hotel, on realising they were New Zealand players.”Unfortunately when we decided to leave the night spot we were picked up by police following another poor decision to hand out money to people living on the street, whereupon a crowd developed,” Redmond told NZPA. “The police initially took us back to the station and then arranged for a taxi to take us back to the hotel.”Justin Vaughan, the NZC chief executive, did not revel any details of the punishment meted out to the pair. “The incident was dealt with thoroughly and appropriately at the time,” he said. “It was a confidential process, and New Zealand Cricket considers the matter closed.”The pair regretted the incident and apologised to NZC for not seeking permission to step out. “We also wish to apologise to other stakeholders in the game including the fans for our inappropriate behaviour while on tour,” Redmond said.

Steven Gerrard is a ‘massive fan’ of Rangers star Ryan Kent and could potentially look to sign him for Aston Villa, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Kent continues to shine

The 25-year-old has been an excellent servant for the Gers, scoring 29 goals and registering 34 assists in 147 appearances for the club. The winger has been a little muted so far this season, netting just twice in the Premiership, but he remains an undisputed key player at Ibrox.

Kent’s current deal expires in the summer of 2023, however, so Rangers are running out of time to possibly receive a fee for his services.

The Latest: Journalist confirms Gerrard’s admiration

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Villa to join up with his former manager Gerrard, and speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke reckons that the 41-year-old is very keen to try and reunite with the ex-Liverpool winger.

The journalist outlined: “Steven Gerrard is a massive fan of him, he’s spoken very highly of him during his time at Rangers. And Gerrard did get the best out of Ryan Kent, it’s fair to say, while he was up in charge of Rangers as well.”

The Verdict: Potential big blow

Losing Kent could be a hammer blow for Rangers, especially midway through the season, hampering their title defence in the process. The 25-year-old’s quality and end product out wide has been so influential for a number of years and he would be a tricky man for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to replace.

It is easy to see the appeal from Gerrard’s perspective, with Kent having excelled under him – he enjoyed 15 goal involvements in the league last season and was hailed as a “game changer” by his former boss – and he has now matured to an extent that he could be a force in the Premier League.

Judging by O’Rourke’s comments, don’t expect the links with Villa to subside any time soon.
