No Estádio do Vale, Novo Hamburgo e Grêmio duelaram para ver quem faria a final do Campeonato Gaúcho contra o Internacional.

Australia aim to continue hold over West indies

Australia have won 12 of their past 13 Tests against West Indies and they will aim to keep that trend going in the first Test in Jamaica

Start time 10.00 (local), 15.00 (GMT)The Big PictureOn paper it’s a mismatch – the world’s top-ranked Test side against the team in eighth position. West Indies have rarely troubled Australia since the mid 1990s, when Tests between the two countries were almost as important as Ashes contests. Without their captain Chris Gayle and with three other players just off the plane from the Indian Premier League, it’s hard to see much changing for West Indies this time around. But Australia have not been trialled in overseas Test matches in the post-Warne/McGrath era and how their newer faces adapt to the Caribbean conditions could have a significant bearing on the result. Not surprisingly, Australia are starting as short-priced favourites.Test form guideWest Indies – WLLWLL
Australia – DLWWWWWatch out for …Ramnaresh Sarwan In a West Indies line-up lacking batting class Sarwan will be, along with Shivnarine Chanderpaul, one of the few men who may worry the Australia attack. Without Gayle as a batsman and as the captain, Sarwan becomes even more important and he is in form after making 80, 72, 57 and 102 against Sri Lanka in April.Brad Haddin Will become Australia’s 400th Test cricketer and only their second wicketkeeper in eight years. Has the unenviable task of replacing Adam Gilchrist, but Haddin is an accomplished gloveman and a fine first-class batsman in his own right and in the past four Pura Cup seasons he has averaged 55.77 for New South Wales.Stuart MacGill Australia’s spin concerns could be solved if MacGill continues his positive comeback from wrist surgery. His Test reappearance in November against Sri Lanka was hampered by carpal-tunnel syndrome and knee problems, but if he can get through the Caribbean tour fully fit and with a bag of wickets, the talk of a potential Shane Warne return may die down.Team newsThe two men who opened last time West Indies played a Test are both out through injury, Chris Gayle with a groin problem and Sewnarine Chattergoon due to a shoulder concern. Brenton Parchment is likely to play his second Test despite missing out in the tour match for the Jamaica Select XI, while Devon Smith will probably return to the top after settling in the middle. The loss of the suspended Marlon Samuels means Runako Morton could slot into the middle order, while the specialist spinners Sulieman Benn and Amit Jaggernauth may have to compete with the spinning allrounder Ryan Hinds for one position.West Indies (possible) 1 Brenton Parchment, 2 Devon Smith, 3 Ramnaresh Sarwan (capt), 4 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 5 Runako Morton, 6 Dwayne Bravo, 7 Ryan Hinds, 8 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 9 Jerome Taylor, 10 Daren Powell, 11 Fidel Edwards. The typically stable Australia line-up has changed thanks to the heel injury that ruled out Matthew Hayden and Michael Clarke’s absence. Simon Katich will open with Phil Jaques after doing the job commendably in the tour match in Jamaica. Brad Hodge is back at No. 5 for Clarke, who was given compassionate leave.Australia 1 Phil Jaques, 2 Simon Katich, 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Hussey, 5 Brad Hodge, 6 Andrew Symonds, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Brett Lee, 9 Mitchell Johnson, 10 Stuart Clark, 11 Stuart MacGill.Umpires: Aleem Dar, Russell Tiffin.Pitch & conditionsOnce one of the hardest and fastest pitches in the Caribbean, the Sabina Park surface has slowed in recent years. It hasn’t hosted any international cricket since the 2007 World Cup, and the last time a Test was held at the ground was in 2006 when Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh both claimed five-wicket hauls. MacGill will be hoping for more of the same.Weather: No rain is expected at any stage during the match, with conditions likely to be warm and cloudy.Stats and triviaWest Indies have lost 12 of their past 13 Tests against Australia, their only victory coming at St John’s in 2003 when they chased down a record fourth-innings target of 418. West Indies did win the last time the teams met in Kingston, but that was nine years ago and only one of the 22 players from that match – MacGill – will be turning out this time.Unbelievably, this is Australia’s first Test on foreign soil in more than two years. Last time they played away from home was in Bangladesh in 2006, when Jason Gillespie made a double-century.Quotes”If the likes of Gayle, Chanderpaul, Sarwan, Bravo and Edwards, and these sorts of players, play their best, then they they can compete with any team in the world, so we have to be on our game.”
“It’s a great time [to face Australia], actually. Obviously, they’ve got quite a lot of new faces as well. The players that are there are very good, and you obviously can’t take anybody for granted. But it’s a great opportunity for us as a team to continue to play well.”

SAFC fans react to Jones news

Sunderland fans have been reacting to the news that Jordan Jones is set to move on loan to Wigan Athletic from Rangers.

The Black Cats are preparing for their new campaign, which kicks off on Saturday – they will host Wigan at the Stadium of Light. The north-east outfit have made some new signings, with Callum Doyle and Alex Pritchard perhaps the picks of the bunch so far, but Lee Johnson is likely to be looking for more new faces before the end of the transfer window.

12-time Northern Ireland international Jones spent the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland, but he did not return to the Black Cats.

Instead, it appears he will be joining Wigan – as per The Guardian journalist Will Unwin – and, in a twist of fate, could face Sunderland at the weekend. He joins Max Power and Charlie Wyke in making the move to the Latics from the Stadium of Light.

The news was shared by Unwin on his Twitter page, and it attracted plenty of news from the Sunderland supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Zee Network are set to get the Indian television rights for the next four years. Jagmohan Dalmiya, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, announced in Chennai that the BCCI intended to award the contract to Zee subject to certain conditions. If Zee Network met the conditions laid out by the marketing committee of the board, ESPN-Star Sports, would lose out.”The president [Dalmiya] has announced that the BCCI intend to award the contract to Zee subject to them fulfilling certain criteria,” Professor Ratnakar Shetty, Joint Secretary of the board, told Wisden Cricinfo from Chennai. “They have to pay the board US$20million by Wednesay, September 8 and also furnish a bank gurantee for a further US$75million by September 15. The president has said the BCCI intended to award the rights to Zee Network if they can fulfil these, and certain other criteria.”The marketing committee of the BCCI was in negotiations with senior officials of both television companies in Chennai, and in the end decided to go with Zee, who had bid US$260million for the rights. Zee had also pledged a further US$20million towards coverage of domestic matches. ESPN-Star Sports, the other contender, had bid US$230million.It is also learnt that Zee, who upped their bid to US$308million in the last round of negotiations, are set to launch their own sports channel on October 2. Rediff quoted a Zee official who said: “We will invest Rs100 to 150 crores [US$22million approx] for the sports channel to be launched on October 2 and the cricket matches will be shown on it.” The uplinking will be done from Delhi and the official also added that the launch will coincide with the 12th anniversary of the group. One of the points of contention was that Zee Networks did not havein-house production facilities. Industry sources indicate that TENSports, who are an existing player in the cricket broadcastingbusiness, are frontrunners to produce the live cricket programming forZee Networks. When the tender opened for bids in the middle of August, Zee emerged as a surprise front-runner in the tussle to win telecast rights. Zee tabled a bid worth approximately US$262million, about $14million more than the ESPN-Star Sports offer. Prasar Bharati, the national broadcaster, were willing to cough up $153million. Sony Entertainment Television ($148million) and the Dubai-based Ten Sports ($141million) were the rank outsiders.

– O time pode chegar longe.

– (A vantagem) É magra.

Hatfield drops Chalobah to West Brom update

West Bromwich Albion may have the upper hand in the race for Trevoh Chalobah this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to Luke Hatfield, with the Express & Star journalist claiming in an interview with This is Futbol that Albion’s willingness to offer the Chelsea midfielder regular first-team football could see the 22-year-old favour a move to The Hawthorns ahead of a Premier League side.

Interest is thought to be high in the former England U21 international this summer, with Crystal Palace and Brentford, as well as a number of other Premier League clubs, reported to be keeping a very close eye on the situation of Chalobah at Stamford Bridge.

In the interview, Hatfield stated: “It’s going to be tougher for Albion if there is Premier League interest. He’s clearly a player that they like, clearly one that they think will fit in and can do a job for them. But if there’s Premier League interest, it’s going to be tough.

“But if those Premier League teams aren’t guaranteeing him first-team opportunities as much as West Brom are, maybe he thinks development in the Championship might be better for him. He’s certainly a player Albion like and will want.”

Ismael must act

Considering just how short of options Valerien Ismael currently is in the middle of the park, the position is certainly one in which the Frenchman will be looking to strengthen ahead of the new Championship season, with Albion set to kick off their campaign against Bournemouth in a little under two weeks’ time.

And, considering the consistently impressive performances Chalobah churned out while on loan at FC Lorient last term, the 22-year-old would certainly appear to be an impressive addition to the 45-year-old’s squad this summer.

Indeed, over his 29 Ligue 1 appearances for Christophe Pelissier’s side last season, the £3.15m-rated defensive midfielder made an average of 2.4 interceptions, 1.6 tackles and 1.9 clearances and won 5.2 duels per game.

The £12k-per-week man also impressed going forwards, scoring two goals, registering two assists and creating one big chance for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 0.5 shots and making 0.3 key passes per match.

These returns saw the player Paul Lambert dubbed a “complete” midfielder earn an average SofaScore match rating of 6.87, ranking him as Lorient’s joint fourth-best player in the top flight of French football.

As such, if regular minutes really are top of Chalobah’s list of requirements this summer, Ismael should have no issues with promising the 22-year-old that he would be a key player within the Albion side, as the midfielder very much appears to have the potential to star in the club’s push for promotion next season.

However, with time running out before the new season kicks off, the Frenchman must act sooner rather than later, or else he risks missing out on the youngster to one of the Premier League sides sniffing around the Chelsea man.
