Acompanhe.

RECADO A NENÊ

Volta a trabalhar.

Aston Villa: Fans react to Tyrone Mings statistic

Many Aston Villa fans have been fuming on Twitter following a statistic documented by Villa Analytics claiming that Tyrone Mings has made more defensive errors than any other player in the Premier League since the club’s promotion to the top-flight in 2019.

Since joining the Villains that year, the 28-year-old has made 94 appearances for the Midlands outfit, registering 11 goal contributions with six goals and five assists [Transfermarkt].

However, the club captain has copped plenty of criticism in recent times. As relayed by Villa Analytics on Twitter, the 6 foot 5 ace has made more defensive errors than any other Premier League player since the beginning of the 2019/20 season.

Just last weekend, Mings was responsible for one of Chelsea’s goals in their 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge following a weak back pass [BBC].

In light of this revelation, loads of Aston Villa fans took to Twitter to fume over the emergence of this alarming fact.

Replying to Villa Analytics on Twitter, here is what some fans had to say about the statistic, with one supporter raging that the rate of costly errors from the England defender is “getting silly”:

“Really don’t need this tweet.”

It’s getting silly”Credit: @Tom_Price_AVFC_”He’s good but nowhere near the hype and definitely shouldn’t be captain. All these mistakes is not leading by example. How McGinn didn’t get the armband is beyond me”Credit: @callow_19″Give McGinn the armband. Stop making excuses for Mings.”Credit: @man_compute”He is a brilliant captain, does have a mistake in him though.”Credit: @Caseyjones821″Clearly 2 camps with the Mings debate, those who believe his positives outweigh his mistakes and those who don’t. I’m in the first group but that doesn’t mean you can ignore the stats.”Credit: @danielhavfcIn other news, many Aston Villa fans react to a brilliant goal from an under-23 starlet. Balaji and Vijay take TN to semis

L Balaji ripped through the Bengal lower order before assured knocks from M Vijay and S Badrinath led Tamil Nadu into the semi-finals

Tamil Nadu were behind for three days of this contest but, on the fourth, executed a perfect one-two sucker punch to beat Bengal and enter the Ranji semis. In the morning, L Balaji ripped through the Bengal lower order, taking five wickets for seven runs; that quick burst gave Tamil Nadu the time to chase 227 in a minimum of 68 overs. M Vijay showed up the pitch for what it truly was, scoring a quickfire 73 with utmost ease to set up Tamil Nadu’s chase, and S Badrinath’s unbeaten 92 completed the victory. In many ways this was a contest between Manoj Tiwary and Balaji. Tiwary rallied Bengal from a poor start on the first day and went on to score a big hundred but Balaji pulled a googly out of the hat to deceive him and keep Bengal from reaching a huge score. When Tamil Nadu batted and looked like they would get the lead, Tiwary produced a superlative catch to make a crucial breakthrough. Balaji then did his bit with the bat to bring the deficit down to 39. Tiwary again scored 42 and kept the bowlers at bay but Balaji had the last laugh on the final day, bowling accurately and getting the ball to nip around enough to wipe the tail off in a hurry. Balaji’s efforts spoke for itself: 20-11-24-6, and figures of 8-5-7-5 today, his best spell since returning to first-class cricket this season.Bengal started the day 173 in front, needing to bat out one session to secure their semi-final berth. The biggest wicket was going to be that of Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who had looked good for his 43 yesterday. The biggest wicket was also the first of the day, Balaji extracting a couple of inches of extra bounce and getting Shukla, who was looking to pull out of the shot, to glove the ball. Ritam Kundu, with a resolute 21 off 55 deliveries, got a vicious outswinger. Balaji went wide of the crease, angled one in, making Kundu play down the line of middle-stump, and got it to leave him and send the off stump cartwheeling.Flying stumps reinvigorate bowlers, and they had the same effect on Balaji. His next victim was Arindam Das, who couldn’t open yesterday because of an upset stomach and came in to bat at No. 7. Das left a gap between bat and pad and Balaji went through it to get his third wicket in nine deliveries. Rohan Banerjee, the other opener taken ill, came in at No. 8, and with Sourav Sarkar resisted for a while. Balaji took an over’s break after a seven-over spell, and he proved too good for Sarkar in his first over on return. Three balls later, he sent back Ashok Dinda, who went for a horrendous pull, which landed in S Vidyut’s hands next to the non-striker. Bengal finished their ordeal with a silly run-out, which has been a feature of this match. Ranadeb Bose ran for a single to short fine leg, but was simply not quick enough to reach in time, leaving Banerjee stranded on 9.Bengal’s collapse made 227 look a tricky target on the last day but that had more to do with Balaji’s bowling and their inept batting than the pitch, which still was a batting beauty. Vijay proved just that with some entertaining batting. He started with a square-driven boundary off the fourth ball he faced and provided an exhibition of cover drives. He took both Bose and Dinda to the cleaners, bringing up the team’s fifty in the 11th over.Bengal looked to attack, keeping the fields up, and Vijay capitalised on them fully with the cleanest hitting in the match since Tiwary’s hundred in the first innings. When Abhinav Mukund, his opening partner, got out for 31, he had already reached his half-century – off 57 deliveries – with trademark cover drives and a six off Dinda after walking down the track.By the time Vijay was out for 73, Bengal were already a demoralised side and were 105 runs short of being knocked out. Badrinath had a shaky start, but recovered well and helped himself to an unbeaten 92 as Tamil Nadu finished their second comeback-from-behind victory this season. They had conceded the lead in their game against Baroda as well and it was their batsmen who brought them back that time.Tamil Nadu showed great character in this match, but spare a thought for Tiwary and Bose, who gave their best in their first match against top-flight opposition this season.

West Ham predicted XI vs Man Utd

West Ham face Manchester United for the second time this week as they begin their Carabao Cup campaign this evening.

David Moyes takes his side to his former stomping ground for the third-round clash at Old Trafford and he is left with plenty to think about in terms of team selection, with fixtures aplenty in the coming weeks.

The Irons will return to Premier League action on Saturday, when they return to the north to face Leeds United, before hosting the first-ever Europa League group stage game at the London Stadium in just over seven days time.

United will be the more confident of the two sides heading into this clash, having defeated the Hammers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, though it came close to being a different story as club captain Mark Noble missed a last-minute penalty to salvage a point.

But what sort of side could we see from Moyes tonight? Here’s what Football FanCast are predicting…

Both the Premier League and the Europa League should take priority for the east Londoners, so it would not be a surprise to see some form of rotation in Manchester today.

There could be as many as eight changes as Moyes weighs up the return of Michail Antonio. We’re expecting the 58-year-old to keep his leading talisman fresh for the test of Leeds this weekend in what is a massive call, so Jarrod Bowen may well lead the line once again.

He, along with Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma, are the only players to remain from Sunday’s defeat.

We could see two further debuts for the Hammers’ summer signings, with Paris Saint-Germain loanee Alphonse Areola coming in for veteran Lukasz Fabianksi between the sticks, and he may have a new back four in front of him.

The likes of Aaron Cresswell, Kurt Zouma, Angelo Ogobonna and Vladimir Coufal should be rested alongside Antonio, meaning Arthur Masuaku and Ryan Fredericks take up the full-back positions with the vastly-experienced Craig Dawson partnering Issa Diop, who impressed in Croatia last week, in the middle.

Whilst two of West Ham’s Czech stars aren’t likely to feature, new arrival Alex Kral could make his first bow for the club, partnering Noble in the middle, handing both Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice a well-earned rest.

They could be joined by Manuel Lanzini in a three-man engine room.

Predicted Hammers XI vs United (4-2-3-1): Areola; Masuaku, Diop, Dawson, Fredericks; Kral, Noble (c), Lanzini, Benrahma, Fornals; Bowen.

AND in other news, Moyes must unleash “exceptional” West Ham titan tonight, could be big in the long run…

Ele estava no América-MG.

Kumble slams media sensationalism

Anil Kumble has hit out at the media’s “uncharitable” comments on his fitness, calls for retirement, and his performance as a player and captain

Anil Kumble, the India captain, has hit out at the media’s “uncharitable” comments on his fitness, calls for retirement, and his performance as a player and captain following India’s hard-fought draw in the first Test against Australia in Bangalore. Kumble went wicketless in a total of 51 overs and a shoulder injury restricted him to only eight overs in the second innings. In his syndicated column, Kumble said the media attention reminded him of the tour of Australia in January when he had to deal with several off-field issues, including the controversial Sydney Test which was marred by alleged racist remarks and cheating claims. On the vexed issue of retirement, he clarified that he will quit on his own terms.”What has also been somewhat unexpected is the way the Indian media seems to have delighted in analysing and sensationalising every little action, remark or gesture,” Kumble wrote. “I didn’t really expect to have to go through this all over again on my home turf.”That time, ten months ago, saw me unfortunately having to split my time between playing cricket and handling a host of unnecessary off-the-field issues, instead of being able to concentrate on playing the game and handling my team.”Kumble said he was confident of recovering fully in time for the second Test in Mohali starting on Friday. Dilip Vengsarkar, the former selection chairman, had slammed Kumble for not declaring his injury before the Bangalore Test and said he should not have played.”And for those who are wondering, I’m feeling good. I am hopeful the shoulder injury I picked up during the match should be fine by the second Test and that it will be business as usual thereafter,” Kumble said. “When I decide to make a final bow, I’ll go on my own terms.”Kumble felt the criticism of India’s performance in the Test was a little too harsh. Highlighting the positives, he said the bowlers did well to restrict Australia to 430 and praised Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan for scoring half-centuries after the seniors had failed in the first innings.”Actually, I’m pretty happy with the way things panned out after we lost the toss. From the look of the pitch, this was a track on which 600 could have been made batting first. That the Australians took five sessions and more to make about 400 is a reflection on how wonderfully well our bowling unit performed.”Harbhajan and Zaheer stood up and made sure they not only cut down the lead, but also showed everyone that our tail can handle this Australian attack with ease. It may also be noted that our four senior batsmen, Sachin and Rahul, Sourav and Laxman, all played a part in this Test.”He also singled out the bowling of Zaheer and Ishant Sharma – they shared 13 of the 16 wickets to fall – who “bowled with heart and spirit to shape the way this series might go.” Looking ahead to the Mohali Test, he said the team certainly didn’t lack self belief.”I can’t promise things I have no control over, but the one thing that I can guarantee is that I won’t give up the fight. We won’t. The belief that I have in my team, and the belief that the team has in me is what matters the most.”
